How do you remove the ignition cylinder on a 1987 nissan pickup

  • Anonymous Feb 17, 2012

the link provided appears to be for a newer nissan. there is no pin to push underneath the lock cylinder. there looks to be a pin on the side of the cylinder that appears to go right through to the other side. but this pin will not push in. i will try and find a haynes manual to see if it shows pics of what i need to do

The pickup and the pathfinder use the same steering column so the instructions are the same. If you click this LINK you will find the instructions at another site.

Most definetly yes. It should run you around 500 dollars. If you timing belt breaks it will destroy your valves and head.

SOURCE: Problem with my 1987 Nissan Pickup

TIMING OR BURNT VALVE! COULD ALSO BE WATER IN GAS , TRY A BOTTLE OF HEET SOLD AT AUTOZONE AND ADD TO YOUR NEXT FILL UP. ALSO RUN A TANK OF PREMIUM UNLEADED THROUGH IT FOR A GOOD OCTANE BOOST TO HELP WITH THE BURNING OF THE WATER FROM YOUR TANK. HOPE THIS HELPS!

SOURCE: 1987 nissan pickup (z24) acts like there is a govner.

It is your coil. One coil cuts out under load and the other one runs full time. It'll run on either coil alone just fine. Your problem is that the one that is supposed to run full time has gone bad, the other coil which is supposed to cut out under heavy load is the only coil running your car. When it cuts out, the truck wants to quit until you let off and the computer (ECU) allows it to come back on. Should be able to find a new coil for $40 bucks. Good luck.

Is this one of the greatest vehicles of all time or what? Well over 300,000 miles and still have 175 lbs. compression all 4 cylinders - not 1 lb difference and 28-30 MPG to boot. That's why they stopped making the Z24i :).

It has a four cylinder engine and i need to know if its an interference motor or not and if it has a timing belt or change

Hello placecraft
Only one 4 cylinder engine is listed for the 87 nissan pickup, a 2.4L and
this engine has a chain not a belt, and it's not an interference engine.
Hope this helps.

Replacing ignition switch on 1987 toyota pickup?

The ignition lock cylinder needs to be replaced, the only way the cylinder will come out is if you can get into the "acc" position, there is a release pin on the housing that you have to push in to remove the cylinder,. remove the covering around the locj to gain access to the pin, it may be a good idea to buy the new lock cylinder first so you can see where the release pin is, if you can not get the key into the ACC position the lock cylinder needs to be drilled out and I recommend having a toyota dealer or locksmith deal with this.

Clutch goes all the way to the floor fluid comes out of cylinder under hood only shift when ignition is off

The problem is either the clutch master cylinder or the line going from the master cylinder to the clutch slave cylinder.Put some DOT 3 or4 brake fluid in the cylinder under the hood and have some-one look at it while you push the clutch pedal down a couple times. You should be able to see where it is you are losing the fluid.
