Breeze Steering Noise

I have a 97 Plymouth Breeze. She has 136k miles on her. After getting some work done on this car (seems like every month something else breaks down on her) now I'm getting a creaking and groaning noise coming from the engine department when the steering wheel is turned.

I've checked the fluid level and it needed to be topped off, but not much. It started two days ago out of the clear blue sky. We had a cold night (Upstate NY) so I thought at first that it was frozen because it was 6am but after driving it for an entire day and the temps warming up, it's still doing it.

No problems with steering, still steers like a charm but I'm nervous because I'm 5 months pregnant and it's my only car. (Just got it back after sinking in $500 to fix the rear brake system) Any ideas?

btw the noise sounds like an old unoiled door creaking open.

TIA

I have it on my 90 Honda Accord, just turning the wheel in any direction it sreaches & squawks. The steering feels fine, but it sounds like metal grinding.

    What is it?

Sounds to me like ur steering pump is going (sounds like a weird humming). Dodge has had a weakness on their power steerings since the early 80's and automatic trannies as well.
If u want an experienced opinion, get rid of that car soon as u can and get a honda or toyota.
I guarantee u ur problems with that car will not end soon.

If ur noise happens only when ur sterring wheel is turned all the way to one side and especially if it's always on the same side, then it's one of the 2 axles (CV joint to be more precise) and it sounds more like a quick knocking (like a woodpecker kinda).

Hope this helps.

Could be a bad tire or is just out of alignment.Alignment is something that has to be maintained from time to time.I would take the car to a good tire shop and they should be able to help you.

There is a body control module that may cause this issue, it has the ability to be tested, have that done first.

My 97 Breeze battery is behind the left front wheel. Turn your steering wheel all the way to the right, and lock in position. Remove the access plate in the wheel well.
