My golf takes a couples of turns to start when its warm, but is fine when starting in the morning from cold. Ive had it serviced, plugs changed however problem persists. i have also noticed on occasions the resolutions are up and down and not stable when car is idle, sitting at traffic lights.
Any ideas?? Much Appreciated.

That sounds about right, the idle speed may not even be manually settable due to emissions regulations.
I know for sure you can't adjust the idle mixture anymore; that is determined by sensors and the on-board computer.
There may still be adjustments on some cars but they are often sealed with lead to avoid tinkering.

the hunting can be caused by leaks in the intake system.
these can usually be heard with the engine running & bonnet open and a hissing sound especially when blipping the throttle.
also check the crankcase breather hoses which go from the oil filler cap to just behind the coil pack, they are prone to cracking.
re. the acceleration, ther could be a problem with the throttle control unit.this is the unit the accellerator cable is connected to.
a scan with a diagnostic tool will tell you if that is the problem.

Sounds like you will need new shifter links, there are only available from a VW dealer and easy to install. There are two of them, they are usually white (when not covered in dirt) and plastic. They snap into place on to the metal rods for your sifter linkage (located on the back of the trany by the fire wall) when these get worn badly it makes it hard to shift into certain gears not all gears tho. A good indentation that these are worn out is a sloppy shifter. Also the linkage should be lubed up to make it easier to shift, if your shifter is not sloppy then try lubing up each link (think there is 6 pivot points) even the main slide link. Let me know if that helps.
