SOURCE: 2001 Ford Windstar transmission is leaking fluid

I would have it de-greased thoroughly,make sure fluid is at correct level, then operate it for short drives at operating temperature,checking frequently for the first sign of a leak.Check the cooler lines and the vent, If it is running to hot or over full it will "blow" excess out vent.Hope this helps.

you most likely have overheated the trans. and it has blown the fluid either out of the vent on top or out the dipstick tube its self. most cases just a top off and you should be good... there is also a tsb on re-routing the vent tube so it doesnt clog as easy

The front seal could be replaced, and not have a problem. If you have a shop other than a transmission shop do the repairs, make sure the torque converter hub is inspected to make certain its not scratched/scorn. If the trans shifts properly and the fluid is not burned or smells burned, this would be an easy repair. If the trans fluid smells burned, and hasn't been serviced regularly, the rebuild would be the way to go. Also, ask what the warranty for any and all repair are on your vehicle. Normal warranty is 1yr, 12.000 miles in the automotive business.

There is no pressure when the engine is off. You don't have to do anything as far as putting pressure back in other than starting the engine.
Not knowing whats leaking and if its actually the lines then go get a replacement either at the parts house or the dealer.

Transmission not shiftin


For car not changing gears it can be shifter assembly issue, or it can also be transmission issue. Get the shifter assembly inspected with ignition OFF.

I have a 2001 ford windstar with the V6 engine, when traveling for a long distance I started to get Transmission oil leaking and when the car cooled down it was fine......I was told the filter could be...
Where is the oil actually leaking from? If it is from the bottom of bell housing the leak is from the oil seal on the shaft at the back of the torque converter. This is transmission out job to get at it. It is best to have this fixed as the low fluids that will result from the leak will result in poor torque converter performance and then to worn gear clutches ruining the whole transmission. As an interim measure it is possible to top up the autobox when it gets low by adding the right (really important that it is right) fluid via the transmission dipstick tube (NOT the engine oil dipstick tube).

My 2001 ford windstar's transmition is leaking.
This could be caused by multiple components failing. what i have seen most often on the windstar is the transmission pan gasket leaking, which is maybe a twenty dollar gasket between the pan and transmission, very simple to do, just requires removing between 10 and 20 bolts and replacing the gasket, then refilling the trans. i have also seen lines leaking going to the transmission cooler, which are more expensive and much more involved than the pan.
