2005 Mercury Mountaineer with DVD Entertainment System that will not read disk

2005 Mercury Mountaineer with DVD Entertainment System will not read any disks. I have been unable to find an affordable way to repair it yet. I have tried to clean the DVD player with no luck. If replacement parts are cost prohibitive then any ideas on how I can wire in another after market DVD in the same place. Even the correct part number I should be looking for would help.

The data on the DVD map disc ages at a rate of 15-20% per year. As the data ages, the functionality of the navigation system declines. Offering GM customers new navigation DVDs will ensure that the customers have the latest information for their system.

General Motors offered a Navigation Disc Update Program for alot model year vehicles. This program concluded on December 31, 2009. The DVD Navigation Update Program policy has changed and customers are no longer eligible for free annual updates, however, a navigation DVD update disc can be purchased for $199 (USD) + shipping.

If the navigation disc is needed for a warranty situation, the disc can be purchased for $120 (USD). The dealer must provide a VIN and RO# XXXXX qualify for the reduced price. The dealer must call the GM Navigation Disc Center, as this option is not available on the website.

The GM Navigation Disc Center launched on March 15, 2006. There are two ways to obtain an updated disc:
* Via the web through gmnavdisc.com
* GM Navigation Disc Center 1-877-628-3472

Technical Service Bulletins are sometimes generated to address specific navigation radio operational or performance issues. When a navigation radio bulletin is issued, it may contain instructions to utilize an advanced vehicle navigation (AVN) software update with a specific part number. GM dealers must order advanced vehicle navigation (AVN) software update discs as directed in the specific bulletin.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

SOURCE: 2005 Mercury Mountaineer rear end whine, how hard to fix

Before you do this you might want to try fresh gear lube. On Ford products they use a synthetic additive in the rear and not in the front 4x4 axle.
The next thing would be to determine if it is a wheel bearing or a pinion bearing. You have to pull the axles and eliminate them as the problem. You might get lucky and not need to do the pinion.
The technical part of shimming the pinion gears with replacing the pinion bearing is about the worst part of the job. You won't know about the gears until you see them. You will need extra shims on hand.
It is a moderate job for two people. If you have all the parts it can be done in a day.

SOURCE: where is the fuel filter on 2005 mercury

It's behind the back right tire if I remember correctly. you have to have the car lifted to get to it. It is mounted directly in front of the fuel tank, on the passenger side, there is an aluminum heat shield with (3) 13mm bolts that need to be removed, then there is a plastic shield with (2) 10mm nuts that needs to be removed, the fuel filter can then be removed, it snaps into a bracket that is secured by the same (2) 10 mm nuts holding the plastic shield.

Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

Radio windows and fuel read out stopped working

Check Fuse 2.3 (20 Amp). See electrical diagram below.

When it goes, it'll take out the audio and "Cluster and Panel Illumination."
(assuming your vehicle doesn't have an OEM Nav system - in which case fuse 2.3 would
supply power to the Nav system).

Fuse 2.3 is located in the CJB (Central Junction Box) - not the BJB (Battery Junction Box),
nor the AJB (Auxiliary Junction Box).

Also, check fuses F1.6 (60 Amp), and fuse F1.62 (30 Amp) in BJB (Battery Junction Box).
Also, check fuse F2.17 (15 Amp) and the "Accessory Delay Relay," both in the CJB (Central
Junction Box).

Here's the electrical diagram for 2005 Mercury Mountaineer Power Windows:
Note how fuses F1.6, F1.62, F2.17, and 'Accessory Delay Relay" will all
disable the power windows.
