How to fix power steering failure for 2006 Mercury Marquie

Pulled into a parking space with no problems, when I got ready to leave, my power steering was OK as long as you were not turning. But when making a turn it was hard to do so. It was not like having no power steering at all, it was more like if you never had power steering on your car. The power steering pump was checked and found to be in good working order. What is the next area to go to?

Check the auto belt tensioner. A slipping belt would cause this.
Diagnose belt tensioner

SOURCE: 1991 Mercury Capri does not have power to fuel pump

Power for the fuel system comes from the ECU. I would start by trying to read the fault codes. If you can not get the reader to communicate with the ECU, I would replace the ECU. Warning: it is expensive. I get mine from wrecking yards.

Mercury won't recall it because it's a low % of failures. You might have seen others with the same issue but the # of complaints vs # of sales dictates a recall. To help possibly solve the issue is to get "powdered graphite" like used in frozen door locks and give a couple of "spurts" in ignition switch. MAKE SURE IT'S POWDERED GRAPHITE and not liquid. You can get small tube at a parts store or any good locksmith.

Power steering just stopped working on 2006 lexus is250. Apparently has electric motor somewhere on suspension. What can I do to correct short of taking to dealer

I have this exact same problem with my 2006 IS 250 as well. It happened just last week and it was sudden; I pulled out of a parking lot and noticed the steering wheel was very hard to turn. I wonder if this is going to end up being another recall for toyota.

Sound as though you have a serpentine belt . One belt that runs all of your pump in front of your motor. Your belt broke or your belt tension er failed. First fix hose leak then replace belt. Easy should not cost more than $50 at a good shop, unless tensioner need to be replaced up to $150.

The power steering to my Pontiac G6 2006 keeps locking up when I turn sharp corners or pull in and our of parking spaces. What could be causing this?

if you have hydraulic steering, might be damaged components or low fluid if you have the dreaded electric steering, also could be a failing component Either way, have it checked immediately (despite a 2 year response).

Power steering is locked up...power steering fluid full

Hi if you have no power steering assist
check to see if the power steering shaft is broken
open the hood and the power steering pump is located on lower left of the engine
use a big screw driver or even your hand and try and pull the power steering pully towards the rad
if you can move the pully out then the power steering shaft is broken and you will need to replace the power steering pump
hope this helps you
