1990 buick regal runs rough after choke turns off

1990 buick regal 3.2, runs great when first started once choke (high idle) kicks off it starts running rough. the ECM has been replaced new coil pack plugs wires fuel filter(all by previous owner, he gave up on the project and i bought it cheap) i replaced the fuel system temp sender and dumped some seafoam and fresh gas into the tank, it immediately ran alot better so i started driving it around the block and it ran great, just a little rough in gear at a stop(i figured old fuel was the cause) after about 9 miles it started running really rough again even while drivng at 40 mph, died a couple times and restarted itself while doing 30-40 mph, finally at about 10 miles of travel it died completely, restarted went about 50 feet and died again, did this a few times then i towed it home. started it up this morning and it ran perfect at high idle, as soon as high idle kicked off it began to run rough, i was pondering cleaning out the egr, and testing the MAF sensor and ignition modual, however im trying not to just throw parts at it to find a cure.

just an update, i have since replaced (im going to include everything here) ECM all three coil packs, ignition module. crank sensor, cam sensor, MAP sensor, idle air control valve, throttle positioning sensor, fuel system temp sender. i havnt tried driving it again but i did start it today after doing the MAP and idle air control and while it ran a little rough i didnt die, its never ran for more than about 20 minutes with out dieing, today i let it run for 4 hours and it never died, however once i put a load on it (put it in gear) the idle gets real choppy and it barley stays running. any ideas?

you might want to chk. the crank sensor and or cam sensor. sounds more to me that it could be fuel problem. chk. fuel pressure. pump could be on its way out. don't be fooled by hearing the pump running as they sound like they are pumping but there not, at least not enought pressure to keep it running. pressure should be around 50 p.s.i.

SOURCE: 1991 lesabre wont start after shutting down. If it

Best to do a fuel pressure test, pump might be weak and dosent show up until it gets gets warm. Best to do the test after it quits again when pump is at its hottest. If you havent done it yet chg. fuel filter too.

SOURCE: 1999 Buick Regal GSX won't stay running......

It's probably the mass airflow sensor and/or oxygen sensors.

1990 Buick Regal 3.1 has rough idle, hesitates and dies when accelerating.

A lot of new parts! Have a compression test done to gauge the engine's internal condition, and go from there. If compression is good on all 6 cylinders, scan for trouble codes. The compression test may find your problem, something like an exhaust valve burned or not seating properly.

I have a 1990 Buick regal that does not turn over on first attempt and is sluggish to start.

Just to clarify, cranking is the same thing as turning over.
If it cranks but does not start, you need to check the fuel pressure with a gauge before and after you try to start it.
The pump relay allows the pump to run for 3 seconds before the engine cranks to boost pressure in the line. If the check valve in the pump is bad the pressure will drop off when the engine is not running.

I have a 1990 buick Regal 3.1 that rotates but will not start I have replaced the fuel pump and filter now I have the proper fuel pressure and spark so I did a OBD1 test and came up with code 33 which is...

a bad MAP sensor will definately keep the car from running properly, some vehicles run really rough when it's bad and others won't even start.

You name it ive done it!!!! I have a 99 regal with the 3800 series 2 and it is running rough either at idle oe driving and every once in awhile it will just die but starts right back !!! any ideas?

I have a 1988 Buick Century and was having trouble diagnosing a similar issue. $70 and an idle air motor (really looks more like a solenoid-driven valve) solved 60% of the problem...still working on the lagging on the high end, but driving it every day. Good luck!

My daughters 1990 buick regal custom has started running rough and stalling out any sugestions?

First, have your daughter listen for vacuum leaks (young females generally have the best high frequency hearing) They will sound like a very high pitched whistle. Next, look for vacuum hoses that are damaged and leaking. Next, clean the throttle body. Remove the hose that goes from the air cleaner to the throttle body. Hold the throttle plate open and spray some throttle body cleaner (available at an auto parts store) in and scrub with an old toothbrush -- don't forget the top. There are other things, but these are the easy, common, obvious first tries.
