My 2001 F150 won't shift into park.... It will shift into every other gear but park. Unless I go under the truck and manually turn the linkage back into park. Any ideas of what the problem may be?

Gday mate, geoff here, now on your shifter if column shift there is an adjustment where it goes down the box from the steering column under the hood and if stick shift should be just under the console, alternitiveley the rubber grommets on the linkage are worn and need replacement, some fuel hose will surfice here if the grommets are unavailable at the parts counter, hope this helped, geoff.

SOURCE: 1998dodge1500 wont shift from 2nd to 3rd unless I let off the gas

Well, I should be asking for more information, but since I am now on my 5th, yeah, 5th transmission in my 95 1500 Ram I have come to learn a little bit about them. Chrysler had a bad problem with their trannies in the 94's & 95's. They then made a change in 96, but that didn't solve the problem. So here goes my attempt to help you out.
Have you checked you tranny fluid level? Very important. A transmission kind of works under the same principal as a jet boat. Meaning, it pumps the fluid through the transmission much the same way a jet boat pumps water through it to move the boat, but in this case the fluid power is directed through several lines causing the gears to move. You switch gears when there is a certian amount of pressure on the modulator to divert the fluid to another area.
Long story short: Check your fluid, not only the level BUT the fluid. Are you seeing any metal in it? Dodge had a problem with the webbing of their torque converters flaking off, causing transmission cooliant lines to plug up. This same metal chips, shavings, etc. were damaging the face of the clutches, and plugging up modulators. Check your fluid. I would probably say change your fluid and transmission filter. It's not that big of a job if you have a place you can work on your vehicle. Be careful when putting you transmission pan back on. Make sure you tighten the bolts in a crosswise manner, and tighten them snug, BUT not over tight. That will cause leaks.
Another point I will make. Check for vacuum leaks, this could very well be your culprit too.
I'd start with that first.
Good luck, let us know how you come out.

SOURCE: plastic sleeve on shift linkage cable is broken

You cannot take the sleeve off. It comes with a new cable. Shift cable is enough for any parts man to know what you need. Generally this item is a dealer part.

SOURCE: shifting cable/shifting linkage adjustment

Try loosening the nut for the cable. Shift into park from under hood. Put shifter in park and pull cable, push nut towards cable and tighten nut.

1991 Ford F150 won't shift into park or reverse. Will go into neutral and drive, and the linkage at the transmission moves ok

The linkage may be out of adjustment preventing the shifter from moving into reverse or park.
One way to test this is to disconnect the linkage and manually move the lever on the transmision making sure that it can be set into park. Also try moving the lever counting each click from park to low gear to make sure it is clicking into each gear. If this works then the linkage is probably out of adjustment.
On the link cable there is typically a bolt in an oval shaped metal near the transmission shift lever.
1)Detach the shift cable from the transmission shift lever
2)Put the transmision shift lever in the park position, and also the shifter in the cab
3)Loosen the adjustment bolt
4)Reattach the cable to the lever
5)Tighten the adjustment bolt in place
6)Confirm that you can shift through all of the gears
Hope this helps

91 Dodge Spirit stuck in low gear, won't shift out.

Sounds like you need a new shift cable. Remove the shift cable from the linkage on the transmission. If the transmission linkage moves freely back into the park position and the shift lever inside the car still will not move back into park than the cable is bad. If the transmission shift linkage will not move back into park with the cable removed than the transmission will need to be pulled apart to service the shift rod.

88 ford f150 gear shift lock

A common cause when the gear is on the steering column is a worn out pin. That pin holds the lever to the shift assembly. Try removing the gear shift lever and examine it.
  • If the bushing between the pin and the shift is worn out, replace it.
  • Examine the tip of the the gearshift and replace the shift if it's worn out.
Hope I've helped. If not please feel free to contact me with more details.

You probably need a linkage adjustment,a neutral safety switch adjustment or replacement of the neutral safety switch.

Gear shift stuck in park on a 2001 gran am. howdo

It is probably not the shift linkage causing your concern. All modern vehicles have a feature called Shift Interlock. It doesn't allow the shifter on automatic equipped vehicles to be moved from park without the key in the ignition and the brake applied. There should be a bypass that will allow you to atleast drive the car for the time being. Check your owners manual to find where it is. It's usually around the shifter. The most common cause for this problem are the brake switch or the shift lock solenoid.
