SOURCE: My 2004 lincoln lx runs hot I have replaced the thermostat, hoses and it continues to use antifreeze and runs hot, Some days it won,t run hot at all what could be the problem ?

It sounds to me like a waterpump. You can check it by wiggling the pump pulley or start the motor and watch if the pump pully has any side to side movement, if so then it is bad

SOURCE: My 1996 lincoln towncar radiator

sounds like your thermostat needs to be replaced. Make sure their is no air in the system, just coolant that is a 50/50 water/antifreeze mix.

i would replace thermostat and also check to see if fan motor is running. Best way to check fan is to turn on the defrost and fan should kick on. flushing radiator would help and also check for leaks in the coolant system. hoses, heater core, waterpump. Hope this help and good luck

I have a 92 accord LX. I have replaced the Radiator and the hoses, thermostat and fan switch. Car is still reading hot in a matter of 5 to 10 mins of running. Fluids are topped off. I am not sure why it is...

If you have no air in the system, cooling fans & water pump are working properly, and you didn't install the thermostat backwards, you could have a head gasket problem. Also, make sure the gauge is reading correctly, and the engine is actually hot & the gauge is not giving you a false reading.
If you installed the thermostat upside down, it will not open to allow coolant to circulate. This 5-10 minute time frame you give points to a water pump or thermostat.
I hope this helps.

How to change the therostat in 1985 chevy ca[rice?

the thermostat is in the housing where the top radiator hose connects to the engine !!!!
1. remove the top radiator hose from the housing
2. remove the bolts that hold the housing together ( be careful NOT to break them off )
3. remove the old thermostat
4. remove the old gasket with a suitable scraper & clean both surfaces of the housing with the scraper or sandpaper
5. fit the new thermostat & new gasket
6. put the housing back together & replace the bolts being careful not to over tighten
7.replace top radiator hose & tighten clamp & fill radiator with water
8. start engine & run to reach normal running temperature & check for leaks
hope this helps......cheers.

Car over heating

1)check coolant level if low ,check for leaks, examine all hoses for cracks and wear also chek thermostat housing for leaks,if no leaks. 2)when engine is hot use your hand to check temp. of upper hose if hose is cool replace the therostat. also make sure the cooling fan runs when engine gets warm. otherwise bad water pump drive belt or belt not adjusted correctly, ignition timing incorrect, radiator core blocked(flush&fill) of radiator grill dirty, radiator cap not maintaining proper preassure(have it pressure check at a shop) good luck
