Abs light on 1999 mercury sable

My ABS light comes on and off intermittently and I am not sure what that means exactly. My father-in-law just replaced the front brakes (disc) and replaced both rear brake boots (I think that is what it is called). I just bought the car 4 days ago it has 112k miles on it and am also having trouble with hesitation, I have already replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires, cleaned the throttle body, fuel system cleaning (Berrymans - i think thats the brand - B 12 Fuel system cleaner) and ran nothing but premium gas in it since I've had it. I also just replaced the front oxygen sensor and the only thing that seemed to make a small difference was the plugs, but the hesitation is still there, especially when it is below 40 degrees outside. Any suggestions?

ABS has nada to do with car hesitation. The blinking light may be indicating the presence of air in the lines or insufficient hydraulic pressure and/or improper bleeding. That has to be checked out

Hesitation could be caused by a fuel delivery issue, dirty injector, dirty fuel filter, bad fuel pump, computer settings or cold temp sensor for proper fuel mixture settings.

Hesitation problems can be caused by a number of thing's on vehicle's with electronic fuel injection , not like the old days of carburetors where most likely it had a bad accelerator pump . Throttle position sensors (TPS) can get a worn spot that would act just like a bad accelerator pump . MAF sensors (mass air flow ) Can also cause Hesitation plus ruff running , bad fuel economy , a IAT sensor ,(intake air temp ) ECT - engine coolant temp. sensor can also cause this problem . Unless you want to replace all these parts i suggest you have it diagnosed by a qualified repair shop that has the electronic diagnostic tool to test it .
ABS light on , DTC- diagnostic trouble code could be set in the EBCM - electronic brake control module . could be a wheel speed sensor getting ready to fail .

Well, this is just a guess, but it sounds like you may be running up against your rev limitter. I know what my rpm's are in both my 4cyl escort and my v8 porsche,@ 70mph its about 2800 ;-) I suspect you have a manuel trans? Shift a little sooner or get it chipped, in this case reprogramed.

My ABS light came on in my mercury sable what does that mean

When on, this means the anti lock brake system is not functioning. The brakes will work however in a panic stop situation the ab a system will not function and the car will not stop as quickly. A code scanner that can read abs codes is needed to determine what the failure is.

Abs light stays on and brakes are locking up on 2002 mercury sable grand marque what do i need to do to fix it?

first you have to find what is causing the brakes to lock up as this can cause the ABS to activate turning on the light. once this is done then you can see if the ABS light is on, if so you will have to have the code pulled from the ABS module to know what to test.

2002 mercury sable brake light on replaced pads and checked fluids

With the vehicle off, turn the key to the on position and see if there is an ABS light (usually yellow/amber). If so, the brake light is related to the emergency brake and the rear calipers aren't done correctly. If no ABS light, the brake light is most likely the indicator for the ABS system. a sensor is most likely unplugged, damaged or just knocked out of calibration with the ABS drum.

I have a 1999 Sable and the ABS motors seem to come on and off randomly. I cant aford to fix the problem. Perhaps pulling the fuse and disconnecting the ABS system would be an easy solution?

yes you can do this then car will revert to conventional braking system ,but the ABS motors do run randomly to maintain pressure so its nothing to worry about perhaps motors are a bit noisey which is why you can hear them ,I would advise you to leave well alone to be honest as i think teh system is working ok abeit a bit noisey

Brake light comes on sporadically

Usually this means a piece of brakepad is loose and floating against the rotor. It can also mean there is rust or debris around the ABS sensors or in the emergency brakes.

You need to inspect the brakepads.

My ABS, brake and oil lights keep coming on at the same time, flashing for a few minutes and then going back off. This happens very randomly, sometimes lasting for seconds, sometimes lasting for up to 20...

Its exactly the abs module! and its keeping the ecu from communicating with the rest of the car, when you remove the module your tac will come back alive and the oil light will turn off. There is way to trick the ecu to thinking the abs module is working but it involves taking out the module, it is fairly simple. My email address is [email protected], email me, and I will give you pictures and instructions on what to do. Its really easy, your abs and break light will go off along with the beeping!

Abs light is on

This generally means that you have a problem with your brake system. I would try opening the hood and checking the brake fluid level on your Avalon.
