Headlamp replacement How do I go about replacing the headlamp on a 97 ford escort finesse. I mean the whole lamp not just bulp. I'm concerned about the electrical aspect and whether I need to disconnect battery. If so hwo do I do this too.

On the back side of your headlamp asssembly, (under hood) you will find the lamp that will possibly has a plastic looking piece that acts as a nut to hold the lamp in the housing, or you just have to twist the back ind of the lamp in a counter clock wise motion about a quarter turn. Some you must remove the wire first that normally has a locking mechanism that push down to remove. VERY IMPORTANT. WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW LAMP, DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH YOUR FINGERS. THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN CAN DAMAGE THE BULB.

If it is burnt out , you just replace the bulb , not the whole headlight. You access it from the engine compartment without removing the headlight itself.
Most likely it will just take a 1/4 turn counterclockwise to remove. Headlight bulbs dim over time , so it's a good idea to replace them both at the same time. A friendly auto parts store might even do it for you.

2. Open the hood and disconnect the headlamp wiring socket from the
in-line connector. This will make it easier to change the bulb.
3. Remove the protective dust shield
from the housing by turning the
dust shield counterclockwise (when
viewed from the rear).
4. Release clip and disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb.
5. Remove the bulb retaining ring by
rotating it counterclockwise.
6. Without turning, remove the old
bulb from the lamp assembly by
pulling it straight back out of the
lamp assembly and replace.
7. Install the new bulb in lamp assembly by pushing straight in with the
bulb’s plastic base facing upward. Turn the bulb slightly to align the
grooves in the plastic base with the tabs in the lamp assembly.
8. Install the bulb retaining ring over the plastic base and lock the ring
by rotating it clockwise until it snaps into place.
9. Connect the electrical connector into the plastic base until it “snaps”.
10. Install the protective dust shield and lock the shield by rotating it
clockwise until it locks into position.
11. Connect the headlamp wiring socket to the in-line connector.
12. Turn the headlamps on and make sure they work properly. If the
headlamp was correctly aligned before you changed the bulb, you should
not need to align it again.

1. Make sure headlamp is off and open hood.
2. Taurus model years 1990-1999: you must remove the whole headlamp to replace the bulb. Not a horrible task. Just annoying.
3. Facing the driver's side headlamp, and looking at the headlamp itself, at clock positions 8, 11 and 1 are the headlight housing screws. They all look the same. Using a 10mm socket wrench, remove these 3 screws and set them aside.
4. Just to the right of the "11 o'clock" housing screw is a bolt (same hexagonal 10mm sized top as the housing screws). This just needs a few turns to loosen it.
5. Gently pull the whole headlight forward. Now you can get at the bulb.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb. Now the headlamp is free to work with. Remove the bulb, replace with a new bulb, make sure the bulb housing cylinder is in place and reconnect the electical.
7. Place headlamp back into position. Line up screw holes. Tighten the bolt. Replace housing screws and tighten.
8. Passenger side headlamp is mirror image of driver's side. Screws at 11, 1 and 4 o'clock positions. Bolt should be to the left of the "1 o'clock" housing screw.

Remove boot, then shifter handle, you will see a plastic anti-tizz bushing that will need to be replaced

DO YOU MEAN THE ACTUAL HEADLAMP OR JUST THE BULB?
TO REMOVE THE ACTUAL HEADLAMP THERE ARE JUST TWO SCREWS AT THE TOP, REMOVE THESE, UNPLUG BOTH PLUGS, AND THE WHOLE UNIT WILL COME OUT.
TO REMOVE THE BULB, TAKE OFF THE COVER AT THE BACK, UNDO THE CLIP, AND THE BULB IS OUT, WHEN REPLACING THE NEW BULB DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS BIT OF THE BULB.
BOTH JOBS ARE EXTREMELY EASY TO DO

remove the sump and change it ,dirty job?

inside the oilpan you have to take theoil pan oan off to get to it,there are 2 bolts that hold it in place and a screen you have to replace as well
