Gas Smell in 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

I went over a bump today and my daughter asked me what that sound was. I heard it too it sounded like a small crack. After that my car started to smell like Gas. I dropped her off at school then started to drive (still smelling) with all the windows open. After about 5 minutes the smell went away. However when I got to work I have a strange taste in my mouth and my head hurts and I am dizzy. Has this happend to anyone?

To much gas fumes can make you ill thats why you fill or transfer gas in a well vented area --will need to look for what vent ,line or component is causing the fumes

Sounds like the timming belt jumped or broke. A faulty crank sensor could also be at fault.

When asking a question about a problem with your vehicle you should always state your vehicles od reading and engine size, thanks.

SOURCE: loss of power/bad smell

One of the things that it could be is that the catalytic converter has rotted away internally. The rust and particle will then clog your muffler causing loss of power. I ran into this at about 140,000 miles on mine. That could be the source of your problem

Tough one; Is there a roof rack on that car? The cross members could cause that, they're removable. Try that. If it were tire noise you'd hear them with the windows up even louder. If not the roof rack look for loose moldings esp around the windows.

SOURCE: have problem with my hyundai santa fe exaust system 2004 2.4l.

If you are getting exhaust fumes in the engine compartment I advise checking the exhaust manifolds for cracks. When the engine is cold remove the heat shield from the manifold using a 12mm socket and inspect from the top and underneath for any cracking.

SOURCE: 2002 Santa Fe Power Steering leak

Good Day
How much are you adding every 2-3 days? The fluid has to be going some were, to me it sounds like your rack and pinion is gone. I would take your vehicle into a mechanic some were that you trust and have it check out. Having it up on the hoist will be easy to fine the problem. Like I said it could be the rack or maybe there is a small hole in on of the lines. Now the price it could be from 200 - 600 depends on were you go to have it fix. Hope this helps.

Cheers

Why would my 2004 hyundai santa fe smell like fuel after I had the fuel tank replaced?

It's possible you have a connection that is loose and has a slight leak. Is your fuel pump in the tank? That could have a small leak. It does not take much of a leak for gas fumes . What about gas hoses.
