You need a special optical aimer tool kit, they are big bucks and hard to set up.

Clicking sound coming from passenger side dash area. sounds like a relay switch opening and closing. does this even when car is not running. its a 1998 ford contour 2.0l

Not sure what's doing this, but it could be the headlight relay. Pull out the headlight switch and have a look at it - they had a tendency to burn the terminals and short. Ford had a recall on these - I don't know if they are still honoring it.

What is the trick to adjusting the headlights on an E-250 - yr. 2000. I need them down just a touch.

There's a small dent at the top of the trim that surrounds the bulbs. This is actually where the screw for this is. you'll see it, can't miss it. Look directly at the center of the bulb and go directly up. That's for the sealed beam type headlights, which I'm assuming you have. There's also a horizontal adjustment screw typically on the outside edge of your headlights. Not sure what size/type screwdriver you'll need though... Hope that helps!

How do I change a headlight unit in a ford focus as I cannot find the bolts

Open your hood and look at the headlight assembly from inside the hood. You will see screws that you can loosen to get the headlight covers off, and the bulbs should just be "screwed" in the headlight units. There shouldn't be any bolts and screws on the outside. Also, to adjust your lights, you should have an adjustment "screw" on top of the headlight unit when you open the hood.

1998 ford contour headlights foggy how do i fix it

They sell a kit to do this. Me personally use wet sand paper. First use 400 grit and wet sand it, then 800, then 1200 and then 2000.Sand each stage until the yellow color disapperas out of the water. Follow up with a good polish like Eagle One or Mothers. End result is like new as long as your inside of your lense has not turned milky or cloudy.

1999 ford contour headlight aiming instructions

Most domestic cars specify that the point of highest intensity be a little to the right and a little below the center of the light. The adjustment must be done on a dead-flat piece of pavement to be accurate. Use tape on the wall to mark center.

Headlamp Adjustment Alignment
  1. NOTE: All adjustments should be made with headlamps off and at room temperature.
Prepare the vehicle for headlamp adjustment.
    • Place the vehicle on a level surface.
    • Before aligning the headlamps, check them for faulty lenses, reflectors and blackened bulbs, and install new components as necessary.
    • Check the tire pressures and correct as necessary. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04 .
    • The vehicle must be unloaded with the exception of a tool kit and spare tire. The fuel tank should be half full.
    • Bounce the vehicle several times both front and rear or roll it a few meters so that the suspension settles.

How to replace 1998 Ford Contour headlights (with diagram)

Step 1
Remove your Contour's front grille. You can do this by raising the hood and removing two screws that are located on top of the grille.

Step 2 Remove the headlight assembly. The headlight assembly is held into the front of your Contour by three screws. Two screws will be located on top of the assembly, and one on the bottom.

Step 3 Replace the headlight assembly, if necessary. If you are only changing individual bulbs, make sure you replace the correct bulbs. Each assembly holds three light bulbs, including the bright, dim and turn signal bulbs.

Step4 Replace the headlight assembly and reattach the three screws to hold it in place.

Step5 Replace the front grille of your Contour and the two screws that hold it onto the front of the car.

  • It is usually a good idea to replace bulbs together (in pairs). This will allow the bulbs to wear at the same rate.
  • If you choose to replace only the individual light bulbs, do not touch the new light bulbs. The contact of your skin on the bulbs will cause the light bulbs to burn out much sooner.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Ford contour wont start battery charged lights working

If headlight do not come on, leave them on and start check ground and power.
If headlights do come on then locate the starter and fine something to tape on it, not too hard,
but before u can do this have someone set inside the car with the key turn in the start position...

Can't adjust 2004 Ford Expedition headlight

I had a similar problem on my 04 expedition. I just bought it and the headlights were aiming too far down. A rather larger gap was noticeable between the headlight and the hood. The so called adjustment bolt did nothing. I removed the headlights and found 2 issues. On the adjustment bolt there is a washer. Make sure when you re-install the headlight the washer sets on top of the plastic slot and is visible when looking down behind the headlight. Without the washer being in the correct location it will not tighten the headlight in place.
Second I found the adjustment bolt adjusted nothing. It merely tightened the headlight in place. What I had to do was to loosen this bolt and physically move the headlight into place and the re-tighten the bolt. Hence the slot is the adjustment. Turning the bolt CW or CCW did not move the headlight.
I tried several things trying to figure why the lights would not move until I realized I could move the light with my hands and tightened them in place using the adjustment bolt.

This may not be your issue but I found the owners manual instructions to be useless.
