Drove my 91 Honda civic tonight. It did fine on the freeway but as I accelerated driving to z higher elevation it started lagging and jerking, then a monster sulfur smell. Driving home (downhill) was better, smell went away but it still lagged and jerks. No overheat And full of oil and coolant. Thanks in advance for any suggestion,

Maybe you need to check your transmission fluid level, or it could be a sign your torque converter is beginning to fail.

SOURCE: 93 honda civic ex sputtered and died while driving

Is there any white smoke coming out the exhaust? Sounds like the same problem my friend had when he warped his head on his 91 civic. Any overheating at all? Otherwise another guess would be maybe a bad catalitic converter that clogged up. Hope this helps any, good luck

SOURCE: 1997 Honda Civic EX (automatic) jerks while accelerating?

Check your wires, plugs and coils. I think it is an ignition problem myself. Something is breaking down under a load. My guess would be a bad coil or wire, the hard starting could be a symtem of this also, As I first read your description I was thinking maybe a leaking fuel injector or faulty fuel injector, but I believe it is in the ignition system. I hope this Helps! Merry Christmas!

SOURCE: Burning smell when I drive in 1993 Honda Civic 4 door

the info of the problem is to broad, what type of smell is it plastic smell wire smell rubbery gassy? theres to many smells a car can generate while driving down a highway to narrow it down to just clutch plate or brake pads

although yes both can make a smell down the highway its more than likely a grease or liquid burning you should check your engine for leaks mainly around the head and tranny and also check your boots and joints it could even be you picked something up off the road and its now stuck on your pipes burning try it all out

1991 honda civic si starting problem

have you check the ground wire from your negative wire to battery post? check to see the battery is strong. if it doesn't turn over the engine or crank the engine mean no good ground to the cables. if the car ran fine I dont understand why the car wont crank or turn the motor over it just quit. if the battery check out strong 12 V, starter serenoid may be faulty on your starter or it may be hot and will not turn starter over.

91 honda civic dx. Starts, runs for a few seconds then stalls

Try pounding on the gas tank with a rubber mallet or similar tool. (careful not to dent the tank) Try starting it. If it runs, replace the fuel pump (it's nfg). I've diagnosed numerous fuel pumps this way. Remember the pump needs to be replaced, if you drive it, you don't know when it'll fail for good. Hope this helps. Please post the results.
