Uneven brake wear

When i took the pads off the pads were worn down at an angle on both of the passenger side front pads. Driver side front pads were both worn down evenly. I replaced the pads and rotors for the driver side and passenger side. Now i have a low thumping sound on the passenger side front as I slow down. Any idea of what is causing this?

SOURCE: front brakes overheat

Sounds like you have a caliper that is sticking. That will generate alot of heat. The caliper probably has a piston that is stuck. Just a suggestion. Hope it helps. Good luck.

SOURCE: uneven brake pad wear how do i fix it?

Unless one of your calipers is sticking or not engaging fully then there should be no reason for uneven wear unless you have a defective pad.

There will be uneven wear from the front to the back however. About 60% of the stopping power is provided by the front brakes and 40% from the rear , so your front brakes will wear faster than your rear brakes.

SOURCE: Why brake pads wearing uneven?

When your brakes are applied, the piston which is in behind the inner pad, pushes the pad outward against the rotor first, then that in turn basically pulls the outer pad and assembly inward for the sandwiching affect, squeezing the 2 pads together on either side of the rotor. Although there will be a little difference because of that, other things can effect how much wear difference that will occur, such as poor lubrication of the caliper slide bolts etc, as well as perhaps a partially seized caliper, or even a defective brake hose at caliper, as well as worn bushings in caliper that allow too much play, causing caliper to shift too much. Checking and keeping all those moving parts lubricated properly, will minimize uneven wear.

SOURCE: brake petal goes all the

the bolts are getting really hot because the friction of the pads running on the rotor the whole time whilst driving.
the pedal problem could be a few things but the most likely is either that the brake fluid needs replacing because it's got water in it,
there's air in the lines or the brakes master cylinder seals need replacing due to age.

I replaced both axles , but when I brake it pulls to the driver side ( only when I brake)

Likely suspects include:
unevenly worn brake pads
unevenly worn brake discs or drums
air in brake lines
uneven tire wear
wheels out of alignment

Unless you can troubleshoot effectively and perform the needed repairs, I would take the vehicle in for service. It could end up saving you lots of time and money in unneeded parts and labor.

I have a 91 ford explorer 4x4. I have a loud grinding noise coming from passenger side front wheel that started a few days ago. I have been told cv joint by one person, wheel bearing by another and I...

Without hearing it i honestly couldnt say they could all be right and everything is worn out ,have you checked the brake pads for wear in case that is causing the noise like a worn brake disk (rotor) and as the pad wears down the metal on the pad backing is rubbing on the edge of the worn brake disk ?? take the wheel off and have a good look yourself

Front passenger wheel is in at the top by 1/2 inch rubbing noise started when making left turns. I think wheel hub assembly is bad. Also inboard brake pad completely worn down. Can bad struts cause this?

Sounds like a bad hub/bearing, could also be a front axle issue though.

I have never heard in my almost 15 years as a mechanic of struts causing one pad to wear uneven, this more sounds like an issue of one of two things, bad caliper, or when you had your brakes replaced whoever did the job did not replace that pad.

I changed front brake pads on my 99 malibu. after six weeks, the driver side started grinding. Took wheel off and found the outer pad worn completely through, inner showed almost no wear at all. ...

The metal squeak tabs go on the bottom when u install them !!! Just make sure when u r putting brake pads on, look at them before u put em in and make sure the tabs are on the bottom and not the top. That will cause them to wear down a lot faster !!!

Passenger side front brakes locking up

There are a number of problems that can cause that. It could be a bad caliper which is either hanging up or not returning correctly. It could be a bad proportioning valve or ABS motor. It doesn't have to be the passenger caliper that is bad. If the driver side isn't moving then all the brake pressure will go into the passenger side. Check your pads for excessive wear also. Metal on metal contact will cause that or a heat cracked pad could be causing uneven pressure. Check your rotors for glazing as well. If the pads don't grab until high pressure is applied then the brake could lock up. Pads rotors and calipers should cost less than two hundred dollars and if you replace all of them then you shouldn't have to worry about them for another twenty thousand miles or so. Take out the ABS fuse and drive it first and see if it does the same thing. If it does, then it's not the ABS motor. To me, it sounds like a caliper hanging up. Good luck.

Funny noise/squeal from LH wheel area on turning RH bends

Check your brakes for excessive wear or uneven wear. There are metal objects attached to the brake pads, that when worn they touch the rotors creating a metal squealing sound. This serves as a warning to prevent additional damage to your braking system, replace if pads are worn. If this isn't the case, if 4WD have your shafts, hubs bearings checked, if 2WD have your wheel bearings checked. Hopefully this helps
