Overheat and no start

I was driving my escort and suddenly my temp gauge raced to hot i mean in the red. i never experienced this prob and then started to lose power and then it just stopped. i put antifreeze cause i smelled it but no hose leaks. checked the plugs two were dry but the other two looked like they were swimming in oil and water but still wondering what was the cause of the overheating.my car turns like it wants to start but nothing.

My 01 Pontiac Montana is trying to overheat at high power

If your vehicle doesn't actually overheat, just getting hot, I think that's the normal behaviour for these cars. My 03 AWD behaves the same way. When driving uphill, especialy when towing, the temperature rises close to the red marking, but I have never experienced it overheating. I think that the temperature has to rise much over the normal driving temperature to activate the two electric fans.

1998 subaru forester overheating heater blows cold air

Any chance of a head gasket leak? Is the coolant level still full? These were known for head gasket issues. Coolant is a closed system and level will not drop unless there is a leak. Make sure there is no air in the system. Replace the radiator cap to make sure that it is operating properly.

1995 ford windstar overheat after replacing the thermostat

Let your engine warm up with the rad. cap off and see if the coolant level drops. and make sure your overflow is full. It blows cold air because there is no water getting to the heater core. And it shows a normal(ish) temp because the water needs to be touching the temp. sensor. I really do think there is air in the system and there is not enough coolant but hard to tell from here. Also as with overheating any time make sure to check your oil and look for any coolant as the head gasket seldomly holds together if the motor overheats.

I had the same problem and it was the water pump, loosen the belt and check the pump for excessive play.
