Where is the fan temperature sensor located

Replace radiator, upper radiator hose it was collapsing, the water temp sender, flushed heater coil,, test ran vehicle and the temperature will peg at 260 degrees and the almost immediately return to 210 and run perfect until you stop, found that the cooling fans where not activating unit temp of 240 and or above I know this is not normal but not sure of proper temp, I figure around 220 when they should come on, cannot find where the cooling fan temp switch is located or how to test it can you help? Thanks

The thermostat does not activate the fans, I know this because I replaced the thermostat first, it is not a sensor it opens and closes it can not transmit a signal to activate the fans, unless you are talking about the temp sender which I have also already replaced, now I can see where you might have a resistance signal sent to the fan sensor to active the fans when engine temperature exceeds a certain degree the fans have to be activated by ECM or a fan sensor hello...where is the fan sensor..

Actually, the ECM directing the sensor to actuate the switches. the engine thermostat is the actuator of the fans in the cooling system. and its located in the oulet port of the engine where the upper radiator hose is connected. (and or at the lower rad hose, some design on VWs).

I have a 1997 Toyota Avalon. I've been having overheating issues. I replaced the radiator, but am unsure about if my water pump. I cannot find a diagram of the engine showing me where it is located.

water pumps give very little trouble other than bearings and seal
look for other more likely problem areas such as
head gasket ---have a compression test done
thermostat---have it checked
if electric fan/s --check relay, fuses, coolant temperature sensor unit
if viscous fan --replace viscous fan hub

I replaced my 2004 Nissan radiator and thermostat still over heating , any ideas?

Is the thermostat installed up side down. That does happen sometimes and will cause that.
Is the radiator a new one if not could be plugged and won't let the antifreeze flow.
Is the water pump functioning right. Check your belts as well.
Is the fluid in the rad up where it should be. Low fluid will cause the water pump to not work. Just thoughts of what would cause your problem.

Engine temp

remove the wire from the temperature sender unit and earth it out on the engine . Turn on the ignition and see if the gauge goes to overheat. If it dose replace the temperature sender unit. If it doesn't replace the gauge.

It would appear your thermostat is stuck in the closed position , find where it is on your engine, drain coolant and remove thermostat housing and stat, replace housing(liquid gasket OK) and coolant. now run engine, turn heater controls to hot leaving filler cap off, top up any water to max and replace cap now warm up to temp until fan comes on. if all ok replace thermostat with a new one and new gasket, you could also flush the sytem out at the same time with a hose pipe by loosening one of coolent pipes and flush radiator.

If both heater hoses are getting hot, the problem could be a stuck blend door under the dash.
If only one hose is getting hot, there is a blockage in the coolant flow somewhere.

2000 EXPEDITION OVERHEATING 4 MILE AFTER LEAVING HOME NEW RADIATOR, FLUSH, AND NEW THERMOSTAT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS

Here are a few things to try. Check your Radiator cap pressure as a weak cap will boil over more quickly. Replace your Temperature sending unit. There may be 2, one is for the dash gauge and the other is for engine control. Unless you have other signs of overheating you may not be overheating at all, just a bad sender.

Next, the cooling fan clutch is what the fan blade is mounted on. This is checked by using a Timing light with a RPM tach made into it. The fan clutch "locks" at a variable temperature. In cold weather it slips internally. In hot weather it engages or "locks". A mechanic measures the RPM of the blade to the RPM of the engine. This tells if the fan clutch is slipping too much internally.

Before considering a new water pump try a free scan at Autozone or Oreillys. If your Catalytic converters are plugged the engine will overheat. You should have a Code for this problem in the onboard computer. About all you can try after this is to remove the Thermostat completely and see if the engine still overheats.

You will have to replace the New Thermostat again because the other engine controls will not work right without it. But without the thermostat you can test for collapsed Radiator hoses at say 2500RPM or above. Thats about all I can think of, the water pump would cost the most. The cap, sensor-sender, fan clutch, and hoses are not that expensive.

Overheating

If the thermostat doesnt open hoses can **** in on them selfs Watch hoses while at operating temperature and rev the vehicle while watching the radiator hoses, top and bottom,to see if they stay normal. The bottom hose usualy has a steel inner winding to stop water pump from sucking hose in but have seen these corrode and collapse.I think you should replace the thermostat first and check that the fans are cooling the radiator correctly. Also check the accuracy of the water sensor that sends the signal to your dash gauge to make sure its not a simple sensor fault.Generaly a water pump will not give problems until it starts to leak.Have you bled the water system as air locks can cause your problem as well.good luck
