2006 Mustang GT Convertible

The rear glass window is shattered. Does anyone know how and where to repair. Do I need a complete new top or is there a kit that can be purchased to replace the glass window with plastic/glass and self install?

  • mercy68 May 24, 2009

Mine is a 2001 and back window shattered for no reason I can think of just putting the top down. It's the heated window. Lowest quote was $750 because window needs to be sown in. Not sure if it will happen again, am nervous about replacing it. One mechanic said the balance might be off and it could happen again. How do I solve this problem??

The rear window for that top is a seperate curtain.
Replacement is best left to a professional.
You should cantact an automotive trim shop (upholstery) for them to quote it.

The way it is replaced, you have to take the top loose, roll it forward, replace the window curtain, reinstall the top. Depending on the condition if the top, it may need replacement also. That is best determined by the shop that does the work.
This is not recommend as a DIY project. I worked in a trim shop for years, and they are not easy.

Glass is bonded to top cloth. You must replace entire rear cloth section and sew it to the top. Requires top removal and upholstery sewing machine. Farm this job out.

take the vehicle to an accredited windscreen repairer/ replacer and discuss the problem with them. If it can be done they will have access to the glass and will be able to tell you where to get it fitted if it requires specialist attention.

Convertible top coming away from glass window

This is a common problem. At the factory, the top material is bonded to the glass. That bond is breaking down. You can use Gorilla taps or urethane adhesive, but you will eventually need a new window unit.
The window unit is separate from the actual top. The top must be partially removed to replace the window unit.

Just got 2001 mustang convertible rear window is loose on right side how can we fix it, also top wont go down I have read answers for top not going down but am consered about window

If the material is loose from the glass, you have a very common problem. Somtimes it can be repaired with urethane adhesive like is used to install windshields.
If that does not work, you must replace the window unit wich is SEPARATE from the top.

2000 corvette convertible top rear window came

This is a common problem with many cars. It is delamination. If the window is loose in spots, it can often be repaired with urethane adhesive like glass shops use for windshields. If the glass is more than 30% delaminated, chances of fixing it are slim. With the glass all the way out, you need a new top. Karl at topgunwon.com

2005 MUSTANG COVERTIBLE MY REAR WIDSHIELD GLASS IS FALLING OFF

This problem is very common and is known as delamination.
If the problem is not too far advanced, you can repair it with Urethane adhesive. It is used by glass shops to install windshields.
Your top and window unit are two separate parts.
If the problem is beyond repair, you will need to remove the rear half of the top and replace the window unit.

Vent window repair.

To replace the window seal, you first have to remove the vent window assembly from the door. After it is removed, the nut and spring on the bottom of the window has to be removed. Then remove the glass and frame from the vent assembly frame. Then gently remove the rubber off of the frame and install the new one after you replace the top vent bar seals. Reverse the window removal procedures to reinstall the glass and frame. The top vent bar seals requires a special tool to remove and replace the rivets you get with the replacement seal. You need to replace the top vent bar seal before reinstalling the new vent window rubber. When I replaced my top vent seals, it was fairly easy with my removal/installation tool.
