Does the engine of a 2001 oldsmobile aurora 4.0 have to be pulled to replace the timing chain

Car wont start after dying while being driven. mechanic told us the timing chain broke and I was wondering if it requires having the engine dropped or pulled out to replace the timing chain.

No you do not need to replace pull the engine. Replacing this chain takes many special tools, I would suggest if you can afford it to avoid trying to do this at home, it is a very difficult job even for a professioanl. You will need a factory service manual to get all set up right.

SOURCE: How do you change the brakelight on a 2001

pop the trunk and you should see two screws along the rear taillight assembly. remove the screws and the taillight assembly should pop out. you can then twist the bulb and pop it out along with the harness, put the new bulb in and reverse.

If it's your 3rd brake light, the bolts holding it in against the rear window will be found inside your trunk along the top side of your trunk (get in and look up)

SOURCE: 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora Rear Rattle

If it's making a clunk noise when hitting bumps, check the mounting plates and bushings that hold the rear end to the frame. GM made these plates out of aluminum and the bolts that go through the plate and the bushings rot out and the rear end slams against the frame.

1995 Oldsmobile Aurora will start sometimes and other times it won't, I replaced the starter and still the same.

If the engine cranks but won't start, the battery and starter are out of the picture.
When it won't start, someone will need to check fuel pressure and for spark at the plugs to proceed.

Will not start, mechanic says it is the timing, but it only has 105,000 on it, and was not driven hard.

Hi :) Has he check the usual things like the cam and crank senors and the spark block they are part of the timing and are less to replace and easier to do then pulling the timing chain out and replacing it

Engine wont start

Try this: attempt to start car. Leave key in "on" position for 10 minutes. Turn key off for 30 seconds. Attempt to start car. Leave key in "on" position for 10 minutes. Turn key off for 30 seconds. Attempt to start car. Leave key in "on" position for 10 minutes. Turn key off for 30 seconds. This lengthy proceedure is the pass-lock relearn. Should crank after this unless something is unplugged, body control module is bad, or other security issue.

Oil burning when start up.

There are a couple of things that can cause this.
1) Engine oil over filled.
2) PCV valve defective.
3) Engine valve seals damaged or broken.

Is this a high millage car?
Let me know.
