Hi, Please check you engine oil as a first start. A loud noise could indicate engine failure or engine auxiliary components failure. You can know if the sound is tapping or knocking or if the sound is rubbing or grinding sound due to rotation. At time you may have a drive train fault
Sure sounds like you described a major vacuum leak. When I cant find them, I spray Carb cleaner in the area of the hiss with engine idling, if RPM increases some you have a leak, if engine dies you have a bad leak.Since I dont know if your engine is carbureted or fuel injected, not much else I can suggest.
If the hissing is coming from under the hood, you have a vacuum leak at one of the hoses,EGR valve on top of the engine, or a hose off someplace like the line going down to the transmission. An easy method to check where, is toget a can of spray starting fluid, and spray a tiny bit in a few places around the engine. When you hear the engine rev up,your very close.
If the hissing is inside the cabin, check the hoses at the climate control or the blend air door motors.
If it's being charged but you hear a loud 'hissing' noise there is a leak in the piping or component of the a/c system.
One will have to wiggle the parts to see if it gets louder to determine exactly where in the a/c plumbing the leak is.
Sometimes, the evaporator leaks, which is behind the dashboard, and is often overlooked due to the fact that the dashboard must be removed to get at that part.
However, it could be anywhere, so have it checked out again, until they find the leak.
There may be debris in your drive belt causing a squeek. With the engine running pour some water on each belt, this will cause the belt at fault to squeek.
Rough running and hissing noise, are most likely an indication of a vacuum leak. Check your vacuum hoses and repare or replace any that are broken or brittle.
open the hood up and look for a missing vacuum port plug on the engine intake manifold, sounds like the case here, that would cause a really loud hissing noise.
That's fuel injected I believe, but try to locate that hiss, and see if you notice any vacuum lines of that need to be reconnected in same area as line.
