Coolant leak 95 Plymouth Acclaim, bottom radiator hose goes to a long metal pipe that attaches to the engine block. coolant leaking somewhere next to the block under the pipe. Does this pipe have an o ring or gasket where it attaches to the block that may be leaking. Is this an easy fix?

The water jacket is just a name for the coolant inside the engine. It is the metal of the block surrounding the coolant.


The photo shows an engine block. The 4 bigger holes are - obviously- where the pistons fit. The smaller holes lead into the water jacket'. The coolant is held between the outer wall of the engine block and the inner wall. This area between them is known as the 'water jacket'.

The coolant circulates through the water jacket and into the radiator via the top radiator hose. As it cools it goes downwards in the radiator and then back into the engine block via the bottom radiator hose

Sounds like you are talking about the heater hose that provides hot air from the exhaust manifold. It may still be available from the dealer.

Is it all one piece, the outlet pipe and the t-stat housing? The gasket goes on the bottom of the housing where it mates to the engine. If the coolant is leaking from the bottom of the housing, that would require a new gasket. If coolant is leaking where the radiator hose connects to the pipe, have you tried tightening the hose clamp?
If the outlet pipe and housing are separate, there may be an O-ring seal between them. You may want to pull off the radiator hose and check if the pipe is so badly corroded and rusted that it cannot seal anymore, or may have a hole in it, especially if it is thin metal.

In a properly working system, the coolant expands as the coolant temp rises. The excess coolant flows into the overflow container by the hose that runs from the bottom of the overflow to the top of the radiator, under the radiator cap. When the coolant begins to cool down, it contracts,drawing fluid back into the radiator from the overflow. The water pump has a "weep" hole located near the bottom of the pump housing that will leak coolant if the pump is going bad. In some engines, the 3.0, the water pump is located under the camshaft timing belt cover, and is a BEAR to deal with. However, the coolant should be pulled into the radiator when the engine cools, so check that the hose from the top of the radiator is attached to the bottom of the overflow and that it is not blocked or pinched. Have the system pressure tested to verify that it has no leaks. Hope this helps. Dano

Check the oil pan and see if it doesn't go there if it does then maybe your head gasket is bad. and if you are leaking just while you driving then it could be a Freeze block plug or bad water pump. Good luck

usually is located under the goose neck that the upper radiator hose is attached on the engine. but different engines have aother locations, like at the lower radiator hose where it connects to water pump. try the upper hose first.

it the metal lines but the leak is in the hose cut the hose off get 2 hose clamps and a rubber hose big enough to slide over the metal ends hope this helps

No freeze plug on radiator, freeze plugs only on engine block and cylinder head's. radiator drain ****, located on passenger side below upper coolant hose all the way to the button of radiator.

Is it possible to wash off the engine while protecting the distribuutor and other electronics so we can start with a clean and dry engine ? . * Make sure that your radiator is full and that the Radiator/ Coolant overflow reservoir is at the proper level . * I would put a large piece of cardboard on the floor and along with a bright flash light or shop light use it to guide you where the leak s coming from .

If that is not helpful , I would perform a pressure check on the cooling system . The pressure check can be performed as a diagnostic tool . Put the truck in park and apply the parking brake . Attach the pressure diapham and Start the engine . You will have to manually pump it to a specified pressure as indicated on the gauge/ manometer .

The pressure diaphram usally attaches where the " radiator cap " is . Applying pressure can show leaking hoses, pipes and leaks in the radiator or fittings .

Be mindful that you can also have a leaking Intake manifold Gasket .

Follow the top radiator hose over to the engine and where it connects to the thermostat housing. There should be two bolts holding the housing to the motor. Remove the housing and replace the thermostat and gasket. The larger side of the thermo goes in the engine.
