Radio/CD player Wiring

I just discovered there are wiring harness adapters as I used one on my car to install a new cd player recently. I found this one on the internet not sure if it is the same car you have.

then you can buy a harness adapter from this adapter to the make of cd player like as an example Kenwood Cd player adapter.

A car auto store may know about these wiring harness adapters the advantage of using them is it makes it easy to install the cd player and if you ever decide to change the cd player in the future you can buy the adapter suited to the future player and plug it into the malibu car wiring adapter as the car adapter converts the factory wiring into a universal wiring standard.

A tip
make sure the radio and cd player works and the climate control work properly before completely re assembling the dash board .
I forgot the aerial cable plug !


I used Aeropro brand of wiring harness for my car that I got from
Car Accessory store in my country . I had to cut one wire and connect it to Pontrol to get my power aerial to work correctly. Which the store salesman helped me work out which wire controlled the cars power aerial

Instead of plugging the factory harness into the radio an adapter might be needed.

the above diagram is supposed to match your radio from the factory. The documentation with the new radio should provide the pins and plugs and what is on them. The correct plug or adapter should match up with the factory harness and work correctly.

Hi, pull the trim plate off the dash around the radio. The trim may go all around the instrument panel. With the trim plate off, you can see the factory radio screws. Take the screws out, pull the radio out and remove the connectors, including the antenna wire.
You will need an adapter to fit the aftermarket radio snugly into the dash. They sell these wherever they sell aftermarket radios. I recommend you also buy the cable adapter. If you don't, at least buy the antenna adapter of you will no be able to plug your antenna into the new CD player.
Follow the instructions on putting the adapter together--it's made for a lot of different cars. You need it to screw into your dash where the screws came out.
If you buy the wire adapter, follow the directions that come with it. I recommend you solder the wires, but you can use those crimp connectors if you don't have soldering equipment.
If you don't buy the adapter cable, use the factory wire colors below to match up the aftermarket wires to your factory wires. Wrap any solder connections with electrical tape and carefully plug everything back in, including the antenna adapter and antenna cable. With the adapter plate attached to the new player, carefully push the wiring aside to get the player into the slot and then screw it in. check the system for proper operation and then replace the trim panel.

Do NOT Cut and Splice. Your local parts store sells an aftermarket radio plug in which connects to your factory harness and then you can splice in your radio into the new connectors ends that are labeled for what they go to.

see an auto sparks ,or take to a local radio fitting shop ,no good telling me here because colours of wires can vary between manufacturers of both the radios and the vehicles

yes as long as it fits the dash, you can also buy an adapter wiring harness from a auto stereo shop that plugs into your factory wiring and the aftermarket radio, no cutting wires.

Yes, you can.  This is a standard "DIN" opening.  Width and height are specified; but not depth.  The plastic empty space tray immediately below the radio - actually make this a "2 Din space"

If you are electrically savy - carefully remove the black trim bezel (two hidden fasteners in the middle section and a couple at the bottom; and a hidden white plastic tab buried way in the back at the bottom - need a long screwdriver to release - accessed only after removing the ash-tray...

I am not aware of any pre-existing wire harness adapter...

Electrically savy - get the above out -  and then measure the available depth.  You can get several molex connectors from Radio Shack, and cut the current wires - and put connectors on them - so that you can reconnect the original factory radio easily.  Unplug those, and make molex fittings going to the wiring for your new radio connecting to the molex you put on the factory wiring.

I'm currently looking at putting in a satellite navigation radio with screen, dvd player, etc. into my 1988 Camry which I've owned since new.  Only new car we ever bought....  Good luck.

If your installing a stock radio/cd player from another Dodge the wiring plug is the same and will fit.If your installing a aftermarket radio/cd player(JVC,Pioneer,etc)you will need to buy a adapter plug that wires up to the radio and is a direct fit to your factory wire harness,so your not cutting your wires.When you buy the adapter plug it comes with a wire diagram of which wire is what.Your aftermarket radio should have a diagram also,either on it or in the manual.Hope this helps you.

I a '83 camry, there are 2 seperate plugs that go into a factory radio.
One for Power/and front speakers, and the other for rear speakers.

Sounds as if you are missing part of the harness for the rear speakers (or it is shoved in the back of the dash unused by the previous install). If there is not an un-cut plug in the dash - your only course of action would be to run your own set of speaker wire to the rear.

Try halfords they do a lot of car audio conectors.You give them the name of of the product your fitting and the car you want to fit it in.usually a universal plug is offered.plug it in your radio then into your loom and away you go.No additional wiring no mess.Usually costa around £7.Hope this helps.
