2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee temp gauge high when heat is on

Our 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (V6) check engine light came on during our first cold spell about two weeks ago. Mechanic said he saw code for "heater failure" but kept it all day and it ran fine. Mechanic also said they checked it over and could not figure out why the light went on because it was running perfectly fine. All gauges were fine and no fluids leaking or low. Needed an inspection for NYS so I had to wait 30 miles and drove it 60 miles in a week with no problems. Had inspection done a week ago and it passed. Last week, noticed squeaky belt noise on idle at traffic stops a few times but chalked it up to extreme cold again as car ran fine. Today, put on heater and noticed a slight burning smell when I exited car. Got back in car five minutes later and noticed nothing leaking. Got back in car, turned on heat and noticed temp gauge just starting to creep from dead middle to slightly right but not higher. Turned off heat and it started to creep back down and stay left of middle. Now I am paranoid there is a problem. Does this sound all normal or am I correct in suspecting an issue?

Thank you! Mechanic reset the panel and check engine never came back on. He said the code didn't correspond with any problems and everything tested fine. That was about two or three weeks ago. I am thinking drive without the heater on for now. :)

OK Angela, if the light turn on again, try toe make the On/Off switch test to "read codes" procedure (http://www.fixya.com/marketplace/service... ) and send us this code number for additional details.

    Goos luck.

If your "check engine" light is turn on, I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there. Additionally, could be some problem with the "temp sending unit".

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, it runs toooo hot, i have to keep my heat running even when we have warm weather!!! During the winter i have no issues with over heating. What is causing this?????

Your temp should run about 210 degrees (f) If you need to keep the heat on to keep the temp down likely the radiator is partially obstructed either externally (leaves or other debris) or internally (rust or calcium deposits). Most over the counter flushes don't do much but it's worth a try. Generally the best option is to have it professionally flushed or replace it with a known good one from a scrapyard.

Need to know where the thermostat is located in my 2004 jeep grand cherokee laredo v6 4.0.liter

Thermostat is at the front of the engine on the cylinder head. The upper hose and temp sending unit are attached to it. It has two 13mm bolts holding it to the head. The therm goes in with the spring end pointing into the engine. Take care that it does not slip down while installing as it is mounted vertically. All gasket material must be removed or it will leak.

Have high oil pressure reading when driving goes down to 55-60 when sitting at light,2000 jeep grand cherokee laredo 2-wheel drive 4.0 litre engine

the 1st thing that needs to be done is have a mechanical oil pressure test gauge hooked up to confirm the actual reading, the electronic gauge many times is incorrect.

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine Stays Cold

If you have verified that the dash temp gauge is correct by checking temp of coolant in radiator, yes your guess would be what i would change, the engine needs to have a 195degree thermostat in it.195 degrees is what the computer is programed to see as normal running temp.

Could be a sensor.I'm thinking more along the lines of a fuel pump or fuel filter. If the fuel pump is going bad..similar symptoms.Would be advisable to install a pressure gauge at the engine, and check fuel pressure when it's acting up.
