SOURCE: Removal of 1998 toyota cressida ignition key cylinder.

This car has drillable shear pin screws on the bottom of the lock yoke you must drill these out.
then release the clip to the cylinder. you must get a new set of break-off shear pin head screws from the dealer to finish the job.

SOURCE: How do you rplace an ignition lock cylinder on a 98 toyota corolla

Crbbndt's solution is perfect. Just be aware that if you have trouble getting the new assembly back in, you may need to use a pair of long nose pliers to turn the blade inside the receiver hole back to the aux position from off. They sometimes turn them selves to the off position during the removal

Misfire in cylinder 1

It could be an ignition problem, a fuel injector problem, or a mechanical problem in that cylinder-like a burned valve or a worn cam lobe. The first two are pretty easy to fix, but a mechanical problem involves some expense, removing the cylinder head to find and fix it. I would ask the owner if she would allow a compression test of the engine before buying it. A mechanical problem would show up as low compression in that cylinder. You would then be in a better position to judge the true value of the vehicle's engine, and how much you are willing to fork over.

4runner ignition stuck. need to know how to remove it

If you're talking about the ignition lock/key cylinder in the column. It's going to be quite difficult due to the fact there is a rod stopping the cylinder from coming out unless it is pushed and has to be pushed when the key is on/turned to the ACC position. Now I have seen in a very few cases of the ignition switch (the electrical part) being locked up. Here are a couple of pictures but at this point like Dennis said I need more information in order to help better.

How do you remove and replace the ignition lock cylinder on a 1997 toyota 4runner?

Carefully pull the upper trim panel from the dash.
  • With the key in the existing cylinder, turn it to the accessory position.
  • There is a small button on the bottom of the cylinder housing, Push it in with a small screwdriver, the pull the key and cylinder out.
  • Insert the new key in the new cylinder and slide it into the opening.
It is recommended that you disconnect power to the battery before performing this operation, but I successfully removed and installed a new one without doing so.

I want to replace ignition lock cylinder on my 1998 Toyota 4Runner do I need special tools to do it? or what are the steps to do it? thanks.

You have to remove the plastic cover underneath of the steering wheel, after that the metal shield behind the plastic cover. When you remove the shield you will get access to the ignition lock cylinder. Disconnect the wire harness, remove the cylinder, install a new cylinder. Connect the wire harness, install the shield, install the plastic cover.

PS: Before start write down the code for your stereo (if you have one), disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Be careful when you work around the air bags.

Ignition key cylinder

You have to have the ignition lock exposed, take the covers off above and below the lock body that holds the cylinder.
Insert the key fully into the keyway, and turn it to ACC. On the ignition lock body, press on the "stop pin", that pokes out of the lack body, above where the cylinder is housed. Press on the "stop-pin", and extract the cylinder. If the key can not be turn ed to ACC, the cylinder will not come out.
Thanks for choosing FixYa. Please let me know if this solves your problem.
