2003 Envoy liftgate doesn't latch properly

There seems to be a piece of rubber in front of the latch mechanism inside the modulenonnthe rear lift gate preventing it from closing/latching properly. Is it safe to take this piece of rubber out or does the whole latching mechanism that is internal on the liftgate need to be replaced?

I don't think the piece of rubber has anything to do with the functionality of the latch itself it usually there for keeping the latch quiet like no rattle or metal noise on the road.
Hope it helps

Have you tried spraying penetrating spray like WD-40 on and around mechanism where cable is, to see if that might be just partially seized and sticking? Try pushing cable back into sleeve as well.

SOURCE: The tailgate latch, doesn,t latch

you have to make sure the strikers are lined up to the latch. The latches get dirt in them and dont move easily. You may have to remove the latches and clean them and grease them up make sure the action is working. There is a spring on the latch if it is broken you will have to replace the latch. Make sure as you before you shut the tailgate the the latches on the tailgate are open and not latched closed. You can put a screw driver in the latch and pull the handle and that should release the latch in the position ready to accept the striker when you close it Next make sure the plastic clip retainers are not broken on the handle

SOURCE: GMC Envoy 2004 XUV tailgate

Two things happen. One the latch is already latched and therefore it's closed before the gate shut, When you try to close it you might notice that the door don't close all the way. This doe'snt have to be thwe case. the other thing that happens if the lock mechanism is working, You here it click? The latch is stuck as the opener is stuck. You might get lucky and spray the latch with Blaster or other rust buster type penatrant. Theres angles though the opening of the latch . Spray on several angles and repleatly close the door trying to vibrate the Penatrant into the stuck area. Looking at the latch use a screw driver to move the latch and see if you can cycle it though it's positions to see if you can latch and unlatch it with the tool and reopen by pullung the handle ( you may need to try ther inside handle too and even the remote openner if you have one. Ussaaaly you need to push the button twice to open the rear hatch so it may take a few trys and spraying to get it to come loose.. Some vehicals stay closed a long time and stuck is the way to think.. But if the door is used often the linkage inside the door mayh have come off the the latch is closed and the linkage doesn't open the laTCH AND THE THING MANAGED TO GET CLOSED WITHT THE DOOR OPEN.

I changed my battery on my truck 2004 gmc envoy xuv now my trunk won't open or unlock but the window does go down and up can anyone advise plz thanks?

It is possible that the battery change may have disrupted the electrical system of your GMC Envoy XUV and caused a problem with the trunk latch mechanism. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:
  1. Check the fuse: The trunk release mechanism may be controlled by a fuse. Check the fuse box and replace any blown fuses.
  2. Check the trunk release button: Make sure the trunk release button inside the vehicle is working properly. If it doesn't work, try resetting the power to the vehicle by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting it.
  3. Check the trunk lock mechanism: Inspect the trunk lock mechanism to see if there is any visible damage or debris that may be preventing it from unlocking.
  4. Check the trunk latch mechanism: Sometimes the trunk latch mechanism can become stuck or jammed. Try lubricating it with a penetrating oil to see if that helps.
  5. Try the key: If your GMC Envoy XUV has a keyed trunk release, try using the key to open the trunk.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, you may need to take your vehicle to a professional mechanic for further diagnostics and repairs.

Where is the manual liftgate sensor located 2009 Equinox

The liftgate can be opened by operating the switch on the instrument panel. Battery voltage is supplied to the liftgate actuator through the body control module (BCM). The BCM will pulse the liftgate actuator when a release input is received through the key fob, or the instrument panel switch.
Not sure what your talking about . There is no sensor. there is a relay in the I/P fuse box LIFTGATE PCB relay . an a lift gate actuator motor inside the door . An there is a door ajar switch ,which is part of the latch mechanism. Do you have light lit on the instrument cluster - a picture of a little car with a door open , an maybe a chime sounding ?

Liftgate on 2005 uplander won't open

The locking mechanism on the rear lift gate for the Chevy Uplander has some plastic and rubber-coated parts that can get jammed. If you can pull back the panel from the inside top near the glass, you can reach down and try to spray some silicone lubricant into the lock. This could help get those parts unstuck so they spring back when you pull on the handle latch from the outside. Once you get the rear hatch open, I recommend taking out the locking mechanism and thoroughly lubricating it. Your rear lift gate will start to release very easily from then on.

Rear liftglass won't lock

#07-08-52-003: Rear Liftgate Glass May Not Lock When Using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)/Key Fob Transmitter/Door Lock Switch, Lifgtate Hatch or Liftgate Glass May Lock/Unlock When Rear Liftgate Glass Button Depressed - (Sep 13, 2007)

Subject: Rear Liftgate Glass May Not Lock When Using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), Key Fob Transmitter or Door Lock Switch, And/Or Liftgate Hatch Or Liftgate Glass May Lock Then Unlock When Rear Liftgate Glass Button is Depressed (Reposition Lock Cylinder Wave Washer and Adjust Lock Rod)

Models: 2005-2007 Buick Rainier

2005-2008 Chevrolet TrailBlazer, TrailBlazer EXT, TrailBlazer SS

2005-2008 GMC Envoy, Envoy XL, Envoy Denali

2005-2008 Saab 9-7X

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do This
Don't Do This

Reposition liftgate lock cylinder wave washer and adjust lock rod.
DO NOT replace the liftgate latch or actuator.

Condition
Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions:

• The rear liftgate glass may not lock when using the remote keyless entry (RKE), key fob transmitter or door lock switch unless the lock is pressed a second time.

• The rear liftgate or glass locks, but may be unlocked when the rear liftgate lock cylinder button is depressed.

• The rear liftgate locks but the liftgate glass may not lock.

Cause
These conditions may be caused by one or all of the following:

• The rear liftgate cylinder lock rod may be out of adjustment.

• The wave washer on the liftgate lock cylinder may be out of position with the cup side down.

• Excessive movement or slack in the lock rods at the liftgate bell crank assembly.

• The liftgate lock cylinder pawl may contact the rear liftgate glass latch when the lock cylinder button is depressed.

Correction
Important: Do Not remove the rear liftgate lock cylinder from the vehicle to perform this repair.

Reposition the rear liftgate lock cylinder wave washer and adjust the lock rod using the steps below.

Verify the customer's condition.

Open the liftgate.

Remove the upper liftgate garnish molding.

Remove the rear liftgate trim panel.

Remove the cylinder lock rod from the threaded lock rod retaining clip.

Tip
Place the tip of a screwdriver blade into the opening of the C-clip and slowly rotate the screwdriver to pry out the C-clip from the shaft. Then use needle-nose pliers to remove the C-clip.

Remove the C-clip from the rear liftgate lock cylinder push button and remove the wave washer.

Install the wave washer with the cup side up.

Position the wave washer with the curved edges of the wave spring parallel to the tabs on the lock cylinder shaft.

Important: Use needle-nose pliers to slightly squeeze the C-clip back into shape. Make sure the clip seated, you should feel a snap and hear an audible click.

Install the C-clip onto the shaft and in the slot using needle nose pliers. Then rotate the pawl several times to make sure the C-clip does not rotate. If the clip rotates then the clip is not fully seated.

Position the lock cylinder pawl to the full clockwise position.

Pull up on the cylinder lock rod to remove any slack in the bell crank.

Install the cylinder lock rod into the threaded lock rod retaining clip while removing any slack from the lock rod linkage.

Close the lock rod retainer clip.

Close the liftgate assembly.

Open the liftgate glass while keeping the liftgate closed.

Use the key fob to cycle the liftgate to the lock and unlock position while inspecting the rear liftgate pawl. The lock cylinder pawl should have clearance between the latch as shown above. If the pawl is contacting the latch, readjust the cylinder lock rod.

Verify that the customer's condition has been corrected.

Install the rear liftgate trim panel.

Install the upper liftgate garnish molding.

2003 envoy liftgate wont lock with fob all other doors will lock

Try looking at the fuse box under the rear seat. There is a fuse just for the liftgate, location will either be in your owners manual or on the bottom of the fuse box top.

Also, another common failure is the wiring harness at the top of the door. Remove the rubber grommet and take a look at the wiring right there, look for chaffing and repair if needed.

The last thing to look at IF the other 2 check out would possibly be a new liftgate module.

Chevy uplander rear liftgate will not unlock

The tailgate on my 2008 Chevy Uplander refused to open. The unlock fuse was fine. The handle pull worked fine. I could even hear the little motor that unlocks the tailgate whirr when I pushed the unlock button. But the gate would not release. Turns out the problem was the lock mechanism was jammed because it had dirt in it and not enough grease. From the inside, I pulled the lift gate panel out at the window so I could look down and see the lock mechanism at the bottom of the lift gate. I reached down and prodded it with my screwdriver until I noticed that parts of the mechanism weren't sliding back and forth like they should. I sprayed it with a silicone lubricant until the parts started working again. Finally, the lock unlatched and I could open the rear hatch. I could then remove the entire plastic panel and remove the lock mechanism. I found that the mechanism has lots of rubber and plastic parts which get chewed up and start to jam if not properly lubricated. I cleaned out the dirt with my silicone spray and thoroughly lubricated all the moving parts. The latch now lets go of the post very easily, and the lift gate no longer gets stuck.

When i use the key fob to lock the doors the back glass dont lock, ???????

This solution applies to models:
2002-2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer, Trailblazer EXT and Trailblazer SS
2004-2007 Buick Rainier
2002-2007 GMC Envoy, Envoy XL, and Envoy Denali
2002-2004 Oldsmobile Bravada
2005-2007 Saab 9-7x

Condition/Concern:
Rear liftgate glass will not lock when using the key fob or door switch unless the lock button is pressed a second time. All other doors will lock normally. This could be the result of the liftgate glass lock rod not adjusted correctly. This lock rod travels from the liftgate lock actuator to the glass release push-button cylinder.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Remove the inside rear liftgate trim panel. Disconnect the threaded lock rod clip at the end of the push-button glass release and rotate this clip 1 complete turn at a time making the lock rod longer. This will be the only threaded lock rod visible when the trim panel is removed and the liftgate is raised.
Note: For the rear glass to release, the rear liftgate latch must be in the closed position. For test purposes only, this latch can be made closed to make this lock rod adjustment.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

2003 Saturn Vue rear liftgate won't open

The easy part is you just need the latch for the liftgate. The hard part is getting to it and opening the liftgate to replace the latch. You should be able to pull the liftgate trim off most of the way with the gate closed and try to manually actuate the latch to open the gate. You may have to go so far as breaking the latch from the inside to open the gate and then replace your latch.
