SOURCE: Hi, I want to remove my worn alternator belt on my

i use a 1/2 inch leverage bar .there is a hole in the tension pully(usually the top pully) put the end of the bar in the slot and pull. you will have to hold the tension on it with the bar while you remove the belt.

SOURCE: how do i release the tension on the serpentine

Here's how to get a serpentine belt on or off (You'll need to do both). It's easy and doesn't require a prybar.

On:

  • Get a 14mm or 9/16" socket and a long handled ratchet or breaker bar.
  • Get the belt around all the pulleys except the A/C compressor or Alternator.
  • Locate the tensioner pulley. It's one of the smaller ones and is mounted on a spring loaded arm. It's job, as the name suggests, is to keep the belt tight. Get your socket on the center nut of this pulley.
  • Slowly pull the ratchet toward the center of the engine. The pulley will pivot on the arm allowing you to get the belt on the final pulley.
  • Slowly release the tension.
  • You're done

SOURCE: replace belt tensioner on 1998 camaro v6

You'll need a socket and breaker bar to do this job easily. The socket will be of the size 9/16 to 3/4 in that range. Place the socket on the retaing bolt for the tensioner pulley and pull it towards the side that it moves easily, it will only move one way. While holding the tensioner take the serpentine belt off of the uppermost pulley with the other hand. release the tensioner and hang the belt with a piece of coathanger as not to let it slip off the remainig pulleys. Then remover the teensioner pulley retainig bolt and reverse order to replace the pulley and belt.

How do ichange the belts in my 1993 plymouth sundance is there a tension to loosen

Actually yes, there is a tension pulley that is spring loaded. You have to put a wrench on it and release the tension to change the main belt. The belt for the Alternator has an adjustment that is loosened and tighten with a socket. This one is usually located on the Alternator bracket.

What is the procedure to replace the timing belt for a 1989 plymouth sundance 2.2L and how long does it take?

It just takes a matter of minutes. Locate the tensioner. Use a tool yo loosen it enough to slip the belt off. You will then have enough slack to remove and replace it. Keep your fingers out from under it while the tensioner is held back against the spring. You can find the tensioner by pulling on the belt. The plly that gives is the tensioner. You do not need to remove any bolts, just look at it closely and you will see where a tool could be used. Make sure yhe belt is on atraight and properly seated before releasing the tensioner and starting the engine ir you will ruin the belt. Make note of the belt routing if a diagram is not on the top of the radiator. Good Luck_Ned_

Belt tighten how to alternator

The serpentine belt is tensioned by a spring loaded tensioner. When it starts to stick in one position, you get the loose belt issue. You have to replace the tensioner. It is easier to change the tensioner if you can get the van up high as if it were on a lift and work from below.
