Under the brake peddle is a switch. Lift the brake peddle upwards and you will see that the brake light goes out [requires two people; one to hold the peddle up, other to view the brake lights]. Restrengthen the spring tension on the brake peddle.

Should the lights remain ON after you lift the brake peddle up, unplug one of the wires to the brake peddle switch. At this point, the brake lights should be off. This basically will determine whether your switch is shorted or is just a peddle pressing down on the switch due to a bad spring.

2002 dodge intrepid the rear defrost button light is always on my car battery wouldnt stay charged so I took the defrost relay out the light is still on but my car stayed charged next day no charge

Dear Deseree,
I would like to suggest you are on the right track.
Next, try to find the fuse for the rear defroster, and try pulling that. That light may be a lit because of the "instruments" fuse, and if you pull that one, your instruments may stop working.
Fuses are both under the dashboard and also in a black plastic box under the hood of the car near a fender.
I might suggest there are 3 more common things that can cause the battery to drain.
1) a short in the alternator can cause this problem.
2) a short in the ignition switch, and
3) a short in the computer itself.
God bless your efforts.

Change battery and alternator but 08 Silverado battery goes dead after turning off

You have a current drain in your system. Using an ammeter identify the amount of drain. then pull fuses one by one until the drain disappears. Now you have the circuit that is responsible for draining your battery. You have to check all of the peripherals on that line.

Electric drain on the system kills the battery, what could it be?

Check the visors also. But you need to put a test light between the battery cable and close the door latch pull 1 fuse at a time till light goes out that will be the circuit you need to check and narrow down. If you are not familiar with this you can incorrectly test easily

Why does my battery keep going dead I have relaced it 3 times a new alternator if the car sits for 2 days or more and is not started and ran the battery is completely dead

BATTERY DRAINS ARE TRICKY. TURN OFF ALL SWITCHES, CLOSE GLOVE BOX. MAKE SURE GLOVE BOX LIGHT IS OUT. OPEN THE HOOD. DISABLE THE UNDER HOOD LIGHT. CLOSE ALL THE DOORS. MAKE SURE ALL COURTESY LIGHTS ARE OUT. DISCONNECT NEG. BATTERY CABLE. USE 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT, CONNECT ONE END TO A METAL PIECE ON THE MOTOR FOR GROUND. FASTEN THE OTHER END TO THE NEGATIVE BATTERY POST. IF THE LIGHT IS ON, THAT MEANS THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN. LIGHT NOT ON, NO DRAIN. IF THE LIGHT IS ON, FIND THE POWER BOX NEAR THE BATTERY. PULL OUT ONE FUSE, IF THE LIGHT STAYS ON PUT HE FUSE BACK, PULL OUT THE NEXT FUSE. IF THE LIGHT STAYS ON PUT THE FUSE BACK . REPEAT THIS UNTIL THE LIGHT GOES OUT, OR GETS VERY DIM. OUT IS BETTER. WHEN THE LIGHT GOES OUT, THAT IS THE CIRCUIT THAT IS DRAINING THE BATTERY. REFER TO OWNERS MANUAL TO IDENTIFY THE CIRCUIT. IF THE LIGHT NEVER GOES OUT, REMOVE THE WIRES FROM THE ALTERNATOR. IF THE LIGHT GOES OUT, ALTERNATOR NEEDS REPLACING.

TO CHECK FOR A BATTERY DRAIN. TURN OFF EVERY SWITCH IN THE CAR. CLOSE THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT. MAKE SURE THE LITE IN THERE IS GOING OUT. OPEN THE HOOD CLOSE ALL OF THE DOORS. MAKE SURE ALL OF THE COURTESY LIGHTS ARE GOING OUT. DISCONNECT ANY UNDER HOOD LIGHTS. DISCONNECT NEG. BATTERY CABLE. USE A 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT, FASTEN ONE END TO THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL, FASTEN THE OTHER END TO A METAL PART OF THE MOTOR. IF THE LIGHT COMES ON, THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN. NO LIGHT, NO DRAIN. IF THE LIGHT IS ON, PULL EACH FUSE, BIG & SMALL, ONE AT A TIME, OUT OF THE FUSEBOX THAT IS NEAR THE BATTERY. WHICHEVER FUSE MAKES THE LIGHT GO OUT IS CAUSING THE DRAIN. IF THE LIGHT STAYS ON THROUGHOUT THE FUSE PULLING, DISCONNECT THE ALTERNATOR. IF THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG IN THE ALTERNATOR, IT CAN DRAIN THE BATTERY WHILE SITTING STILL, EVEN THOUGH IT IS CHARGING THE BATTERY WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING. GOOD LUCK

INTERMITTENT BATTERY DRAINS ARE HARD TO FIND. TURN OFF ALL SWITCHES IN THE VEHICLE. MAKE SURE THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT LITE IS GOING OUT. OPEN THE HOOD. CLOSE ALL THE DOORS. MAKE SURE ALL OF THE COURTESY LITES ARE GOING OFF. DISABLE ANY UNDER THE HOOD LIGHTS. REMOVE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. USE A 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT, FASTEN ONE END TO A GOOD GROUND, { METAL PART OF THE MOTOR} . FASTEN THE OTHER END TO THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL OF THE BATTERY. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN. IF NO LIGHT , NO DRAIN. IF THE LIGHT IS ON LOOK IN THE FUSE/RELAY BOX NEAR THE BATTERY. PULLOUT THE FUSES, LARGE & SMALL ONE AT A TIME, IF THE LIGHT STAYS ON PUT THE FUSE BACK IN TRY THE NEXT FUSE. WHEN THE LIGHT GOES OUT, THAT IS THE CIRCUIT CAUSING THE DRAIN. IF IT NEVER GOES OUT, DISCONNECT THE ALTERNATOR. IF THAT MAKES THE LIGHT GO OUT, THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ALTERNATOR. IF THE LIGHT IS NEVER ON, YOU MAY HAVE TO DO THIS ANOTHER DAY TO FIND THE DRAIN.

My battery keeps draining down at night it's a 99 dodge durango

you have something draining the battery, check for any lights that might be staying on,interior light, stop light under the hood light(if any),glove box light trunk light, if you have a multimeter with amp testing capability or an amp meter you can check where the drain is by removing each fuse & put the probes on each side the terminals until you find a drainage, that way you might be able to find out what is draining the power & rectify it......hope this helps......cheers

No tail lights, brake, hazard and signals work.

You did not mention if you found the fuse for "tail lights"..
Allot of times there is two fuse blocks.. One under the hood and maybe also under the dash..
Also - check the maual for where the relays are..

A good resourse is autozone.com
Go there and resgister,, put car info in and there is a worth of info like - locating parts on car,, how to and diagrams..

Good luck ;o)

Good luck...

Check your wiring from the lights to the front..The wires go under the rear seat and they sometimes come pinched..Theres a bad wire or connection there somewhere..Just try and follow the wires up to the fuse box..It could even be corded under the fuse box,Hope this helps you..And Have A Great day..

2003 silverado 1500 v-6 brake lights dont work

ljones, Did you check the "VEH stop" fuse in the left side instrument panel fuse box. There are 3 stop light fuses, 1 for all the stop lights located in the under hood fuse box. 2 in the left side IP fuse box. 1 for the upper stop light and 1 for the lower stop lights. The fuse box in the IP is where the upper and lower stop lights split. Let me know.
