Key is stuck

A nice simple answer, you can't. Think of it this way, the car doesn't know you are the owner, and it is there to stop exactly what you are trying to do. You have two computer ECM and BCM, plus the antitheft module and a number of sensors all trying to stop you. All you have to do is the re-learn procedure. Plan B is an auto electrician or alarm / radio installer or auto locksmith.

30 Minute Re-Learn Procedure

1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
3. Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
4. Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .

Could be a weak connection between the battery and starter, or the clutch safety switch. You would need to know how far power is getting in the starter circuit to figure it out.

Sounds like you have button to one of your door locks that is stuck, you remove door lock switches and disconnect 1 at a time to see which one it is. Over time a stuck switch will drain the battery it's sending voltage to all locks constantly, there's a switch tied to ignition switch on some models that locks door when you start the engine and unlocks doors when you shut the engine off, Chev. on a lot of these late model computer base cars when battery power get low the computer gets confused. try this disconnect the neg. battery cable. charge the battery. reconnect and try again. my son cobalt battery went bad key was stuck in the igntion. good luck.

This can happen if the battery is low / dead. To solve, connect a set of jumper cables between the battery in the Cobalt and a running car's battery. Shut off the running car. In the Cobalt, make sure all accessories (lights, radio, fan, etc.) are off. Step on the brake, then move the gear shifter fully into the PARK position. Next, either attempt to start the engine, or turn the key to the OFF position and remove it from the ignition.

sounds about right, probably is ignition switch, reason you don't get codes is because if power is'nt connecting to engine while problems occurs then ecm won't pick it up. you should have 2 ignition switches, (the lock cylinder and key switch, the other is the electrical, usually located under the dash, and commonly atttatched to the column close to the firewall, check connections first, it may just be a loose plug in connection

Have you tried shifting the gears completely through and then putting the car in park. It sounds like the car isn't able to be put completely in park to release the key. Try putting the car in N and removing the key. Even thought the car may not completely be in park to release the key, The gear most likely is in park but not enough to make the switch/sensor to release.

Have you checked the battery?

Does anyone know what the recalled part is for the Chevy Cobalt that causes the key to get stuck in the ignition? I would greatly appreciate any help on this as I do not have $600 to get it fixed.

Are you using the original key that came with the car? The chip in that key may have gone bad. Try using the spare key that should have come with the purchase of the car. You may also be having battery issues. If all else fails....call the people who really know how to rape you...DUM Dum dummmmm....the dealer
