94 cavalier cranks, ignites, then stalls

I have a 1994 cavalier that will turn over, ignite, and then stall. if you continue holding the key in the start position, the vehicle continues to run. let the key fall back to the run position, the engine dies. the fuel pump works, and with a test light, the wires by the exhaust head are all getting power at ignition. i also test lighted the ignition module, and all circuits appeared as live on ignition. all grounds on the vehicle are good, the spark is good, and it was running fine until this. however, when you turn the engine over, the auto locks try to engage. it's been suggested that it's the ignition switch in the steering column. I'm out of ideas, and need help. thank you.

    my car has a hard time starting in the morning, but after i get it started it is fine for the rest of the day... today i did not drive it at all today. i went to leave later in the day, but this time it would not start at all... it made the noises like it was trying to start up but it just wouldn't start.... PLEASE HELP!!! I'm a full-time college student n i need to get to school!

    my ignition switch lock up when i got it to turn everything worked but daytime running lights and when switch was turn to make headlights work they did not come on. replaced with new ignition switch still having problem getting key to turn and whenit does turn and start car head lights still dont work. any ideas? fuses are good

Most scanners will only give you a code for 1995 and up. But it seems that it could be a Crankshaft Position Sensor.Try disconnecting the negative battery cable and let it sit for a few minutes. then reconnecting it back. if not you can go to Autozone and they will scan your car with a very expensive scanner and give you a code. they usually do it for free. I think it's either the CPS or some other densor such as the MAP, MAF . You can only know if the engine is scanned.

This may be related to the antitheft system The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. Normally when the injectors are turned off, the car will run for a second or two, and then stall. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY or a picture of a car with a lock through it? Could be ignition or fuel related. Someone will have to figure out which to proceed.
Could be a relay or an ignition component. The stalling could also involve the idle air control valve.

94 buick lesabre 3800 engine, stalls after 10 mile drive and will not start till cools. replaced TPS, Fuel pumpand filter, cam sensor, crank sensor, and ignition control module.

next time it won't run after it heats up, spray or pour water in crank sensor and see if it will start. I have seen new crank sensors go bad.

I just had the same problem fixed in my 94 jeep wrangler. it was the cap and rotar and the distributor coil and 65 dollars worth of parts and it starts and runs like a champ

Have you checked the fusebox in the engine compartment? If you have any shorts in the ignition circuits that can point toward a failed component.

WOW a 94 with 46K on it thats rare. Your computer may be bad it sends the pulse to the injector.

Two possibles, you may have a short in the wire that acctuates the starter or your ignition switch is bad.If you want the procedure for checking these comment back and I'll respond this afternoon.As far as the stalling problem,I'm not sure,does it only do stall in a turn or stop?It's possible the baffle in the fuel tank has broke free.
