What causes my 2004 GMC Envoy XL 4.2L to Intermittently Stall No Codes

I have a 2004 GMC Envoy XL, 4.3L with the extended wheel base. This is my problem; the vehicle runs great at times between 25 - 35 miles from a cold start. It then commence to lose power, acceleration, misfiring badly, engine will occasionally rev up the RPMs to about 6,000 for a few second without an increase in speed. The vehicle will intermittently stall upon DE-acceleration and in traffic. No codes at all. The fuel filter and fuel pump has been replaced, throttle body cleaned and computer cleared. This has been an ongoing situation for the past 6 months and the vehicle is totally useless to me. I truly would appreciate any pertinent information that you can provide... Thank you for listening and any advice you may have to provide.. Make: GMC Model: Envoy XL Year: 2004 Engine: 4.3 Already Tried: Changed fuel filter/pump, cleared computer and cleaned throttle body/replaced catalytic converter.

Hi E. F. Keel, Any CEL codes pop up? When you cleaned the throttle body, was the battery disconnected?

SOURCE: engine intermittently stumbles and stalls after taking off from stop

Take carborator cleaner. First take off the big hose on the front of your intake then press gas peddal to open up and then spray it inside this fixed my problem. Jerry

SOURCE: engine won't idle,

ok code 32 is the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) this does not mean that the EGR valve is bad right off, check it and see if it is stuck in the open position, remove the vacuum line see if it moves, it should not. It is supposed to open at highway speed to recirculate exhaust gases and burn them, if the valve is stuck open the engine will not idle because it upsets the air mixture too much, if you remove the valve and see its open, then replace it.

What size engine do you have in it? And, how many miles on it?? Well, I guess it really doesn't matter. At first thought it sounds like you are experienceing a fuel problem, and changing the throttlebody didn't solve your problem. I would start by looking and checking my fuel delivery system. The fact that you had to spray gas into the throttlebody tells me that fuel is not getting there. I would start with the least expensive thing to fix first. Check your gas filters. These are often , OFTEN, overlooked as a sorce of problems, and are rarely changed and often overlooked, and are the problem alot of the time. If that dosen't cure your problem check your fuel pump. Make sure it is delivering the proper pressure. I would bet your problem would be solved, but if it's not then next I would check the electrical components of your fuel system.

As near as I can tell, the C codes indicate a indicator circuit problem - check the FWD fuse. The transfer case control module (TCCM) may also need reprogramming.

This bulletin is being revised to add Subject information and change the labor operation. This bulletin cancels and supersedes Bulletin Number 03-04-21-006. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Numbers 02-04-21-006D and 03-04-21-006 (Section 04 -- Driveline/Axle).
ConditionSome customers may comment that the 4WD/AWD indicator lights on the selector switch do not work, or the 4WD/AWD system may be inoperative and/or the service 4WD light is illuminated. The condition is typically intermittent and always occurs at key-up. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC C0550 set.
CauseThe Transfer Case Control Module (TCCM) has not received the wake-up call during key-up and has remained in the "sleep mode".
When the TCCM is in the "sleep mode", it will not communicate with the class II bus or the Tech 2®.
Correction
  1. Try to communicate with the TCCM. If no communication, go to step 2. If communication is possible, go to step 5.
  2. Remove the underhood (ATCM or TREC) TCCM fuse.
  3. Wait 30 seconds.
  4. Reinstall the fuse. The module should "wake up" and communicate with the Tech 2®.
  5. Check for codes in the TCCM. If a C0550 is found current or in history with or without other codes, replace the module and go to step 6.
  6. Reprogram the TCCM with the latest TIS software using normal SPS procedures.
  7. Verify operation and that no codes are present.
Important: For the 2002 model year, the TCCM must be replaced and reprogrammed.

2004 Envoy xl stalls when making turns

this is caused by slow engine idle speed, do the procedure below.
Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
