Re: Water in VW Passat 1999. Car no longer works. What...
Does your passat have a moonroof? Mine does. The comfort control module under the drivers seat was shot. It pretty much controls everything. I havr dried it out twice now. Repair cost was 800.00 Would NEVER buy another volkswagen. Very poor design
Hi, my Passat 1999, just got filled with water on the passenger floor
front side. Can't seem to find the reason why. My computer got wet,
tried to clean it with QD Electronic Cleaner and with a can of
compressed air to dust off computers. Now, when I start the car and put
it on gear (drive) I feel a jump or a hit on the transmission. The car
starst of slowly and on reverse gear seems on normal speed. Except that
it also hits very strongly when you shift. So is it my computer or
transmission? Can anyone tell me please.
I have the exact same problem.99 Passat Turbo. All the same issues of standing water, the car jumping. I can hear a sound while the car is in neutral. The sound is the same sound one would here when you push on the break when the car is in PARK and the gearshift lock releases ('clicka'). Also, the LCD read out of the Gears on the dashboard, danced back and forth - all highlighted, not highlighted, then alternated on and off, and now is not functioning. Check engine light came on. Quite a mess. Currently drying the inside of the car with a heater.
I am planning on taking this to my mechanic on Monday. Would be interested to hear what you find out.
The water was on the passenger side. Damp at the foot area. Very wet under the passenger seat. Water had pooled under the hood next where the battery/master cylinder, etc are located. Probably about 1.5" of water in there. Removed it with a shop vac. Is there a computer under the pass. seat?
Engine idles in park without any issue. The RPM gauge bounces around now, yet the engine idles smoothly. When I put it into drive or reverse, the trans engages abruptly. Tried to drive and got about 5 yards, then it jumped, sputtered, engine light, then died.
Thanks in advance for the help...
