These are a well known failure point for this vehicle and engine. They are currently on there third redesign to help solve the frequent failures.

the first thing to do is see if there are any trouble codes in the computer. If you see P0340

than replace the cam and crank sensors together. This has been a common practice at both the dealer and independent shop levels.

You can also contact nissan and see if you qualify for the extended warranty that they are offering on these parts as part of there recall campaign.

Good luck, let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for using fixya.com!

Have you checked for codes? Is the cam turning? To you have reference power to the sensors? Do you have output signal from the sensors?

How do I fix ignition coil on 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8L I got a Coil Dia Code indicating Coil 2 was bad.

Do a compression test on # 2 cylinder . Not a MAF sensor , would affect just 1 cylinder . Engine mechanical problem ,maybe . Take it to a qualified repair shop , rather then guessing .

call nissan give them the vin number thers a recall on the cam and crank sensors do that first
if the recall has been done and ther are no sensor codes find the missing cyl.move the coils around to see if the mis follows if not check batt volts green/white wire good ground at the black/yellow wire after that you need a lab scope to look at the wave pattern of each coil.ther should be 2-4 volt sawtooth pattern all the coils should look abought the same.

My daughter car :Nissian Sentra 2002. GXE 14.8 troubling starting

The pump does have a filter on it but you should also have an inline fuel filter somewhere underneath your car, Check the pump when you turn the ignition key on the pump should run for a second or two then shut off if you can hear it , it is working. It is rare for a vechicle not to have an inline fuel filter but there are some models that don't have one. The filters on the pumps usually don't stop up that often,it's pretty rare.I would try to replace the inline filter call and ask your local part store if they have one for it and you will know for sure. And usually if the crank sensor is bad it won't crank at all.

Can't find the location for the crankshaft position sensor

you need a haynes manual . because crank sensor can be behind crank pulley or on bottom side of engine that why you need a manual save you time.
