Kia sportage 1997 abs light on

My kia spotage 1997 ABS lights are on since i got it ....now my air bags lights are on too along a world HOLD was blinking all along and i need to know what happen or that means ....how to fix it .....R.CARRION

The ABS light means one of the components or circuits has failed, normally it defaults back to regular (not ABS) braking, minor safety issue at worst but do get it checked out as soon as you reasonable can, you have a fault in your airbag system, this is a significant safety issue, dont panic but have it checked asap. a blinking hold light means one sensor is telling another that something is wrong, usually not too serious as long as everything is working OK,

ABS light is on because one of your wheel sensors is going bad. It is usually tied into the hub and you bearing is going bad. Listen for a grinding sound and that would indicate a bad bearing.

How do you get airbag codes out of 01 kia sportage
You have to read them with a higher quality code reader. The same plug that you check "engine light" codes with will also do ABS, airbags, and many other systems. The basic engine code reader will not do the other systems - just the PCM codes (engine and trans). See if any of the auto part stores, service centers, etc in your area that read codes for free have a machine that will read airbags. But remember that a code must be there for light to be on. If you clear the code and issue is still there (usually bad clock spring in steering wheel) the light will just come back on.

How do you know that the ABS is not engaging?
Do you have a Check Engine Light?
There are many things that can cause you to have a ABS Light including but not limited to:
Low Brake Fluid
Dirty ABS Sensors
Air in your BRAKE SYSTEM
Dirt in your BRAKE SYSTEM

Had front brakes changed on my 2005 kia sportage now the ads brake ligh and the regular brake light won't go off
Depending on how much brake work was done, either the wheel sensors have been damaged or were not properly reconnected. The regular brake warning light may be on because the ABS is disabled at the moment. Fixing the ABS problem may extinguish the standard warning light too. I suspect the brakes are working but not as an ABS-equipped system.
If you have one of the auto parts chain stores near you, take it to them for a free scan of yoru computer; the error code it finds may be more specific that the ABS warning light.

Abs lite was on ,and went away,now air bag lite on, is their a short?car runs fine.
abs are quite delicate and tempramental,wired all around the undercarriage of the car and censors switches to each wheel,check none of these have a bad connection.air bag light tend to come on after the SERVICE check has done it,s time.needs re-calibrating.all air bags need 5 year check

PWR light on dashboard
You will need to have the pcm scanned to pull the trouble codes ffrom this unit to get a better idea on what is going on. With the breaks I would say whoever changed them disturbed one of the wheel sensors for the ABS.

ABS LIGHT STAYS ON SPORTAGE 2003
Hi

This could be a dirty or faulty wheel sensor, a faulty ABS pump, or a faulty ABS computer.

You could try cleaning the wheel sensors by spraying them with brake cleaner, and if this doesn't rectify the problem then a garage can read out the ABS fault codes and tell you what the problem is.

Sometimes just a reset is enough to clear it.
