Security alarm I recently bought a 1993 Toyota Camry V6 Automatic. I guess it came with a security alarm that comes on at will Often, all the central locking system becomes active while driving. I have asked the technician to work on it with no success. The security remote control came with it but no longer works. Can I ask the technician to disable it. Dayo

I doubt if i lld be able to do this. This sounds like a lot of work ,maybe getting it to work well could be less hard. Is it possible to get another remote to keep it working.

Look under the driver side seat for a black box, with several wires going to it. This is the controller for the security system. Please do NOT unplug the wires. You car will NOT start if you do. Advise if the box is there, and I will provide info to disable the system.

    Glas to assist.

First, remove the black box from the security wiring harness; 3 connectors.

Then, remove the plastic moulding on the driver side rocker, the kick panel, the panel under the steering column, and the lower dash cover.

Now, pull the harness towards you, pulling it under the seat carpet.

Pull out all of the wiring, and then observe where the connectors plug into the factory dash harness.

Unplug the wire harness that you just pulled out, connector by connector. Then, plug the factory harness connectors back in (the scurity harness simply interupts the factory harness), one by one.

You will see a red & green wire going up under the steering column. Find the wire crimp and remove the wire.

Remove the ground wire from the ground bolt. Make sure that the entire security harness is disconnected, and all of the factory connectors are connected in the place of the now-removed security harness.

Throw the black box and the security wire away.

Note: if you just remove the black box, the car will not start; you have to remove everything.

This may sound like a lot of work, but, it really is not hard, nor is it time consuming.

Hope this helps; I'd appreciate a FixYa rating for my assistance. Thanks.

Sure. You can order a remote from a dealer. If you do get one, post me back and I will give you the steps needed to program it. The programming proceedure is very easy....MUCH easier to add the remote, than to remove the unit.

The graciousness of a FixYA rating for my assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This could be caused by a malfunctioning aftermarket alarm system, check to see if there is a small LED on a bracket on the lower left of the dash, if it has this I would recommend having the system removed at an automotive alram shop.

1993 Toyota Camry can be running fine when you come to stop dies.

I would think that it is one of two common problems...

1) The Idle Air Control (I.A.C.) valve may be bad.

2) The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (E.G.R.) valve may be stuck open.

You may need a skilled technician to determine which of the two possibilities is the problem.

Alarm and central door locking.

Replace the alarm control box, it is usually under the driver seat, or in the extreme left corner of the dash. If the box under the driver seat got wet for any reason, expect bizaare things to happen; in any case, replace the box.
