Front brakes heat up and sieze - Voyager Plymouth Cars & Trucks

  • menrac Nov 13, 2008

THe Left Front brake heats up after appling the brakes 2 or 3 times. Almost like the pressure is not being released. Replaced the caliper but it didn not solve the problem.

The wheel cylinder has a small return hole that allows fluid to escape back up the line to compensate for the expansion of the fluid when it heats up.

If this hole becomes clogged then when the fluid gets hot it expands and with no where else to go it pushes against the pad causing the brakes to lock up and get even hotter which of course make it get even tighter.

You can remove the caliper and try to clean the little return hole or just replace the caliper.

SOURCE: front brakes heat up and sieze both my front

Whenever you have new brake pads put on it is best to have the rotors cut. Otherwise they can shudder or grab or any number of things. If the vehicle is pulling to one side or another it could be a frozen caliper. Calipers should always be replaced in pairs. As with all brake work, anything done to one side absolutely needs to be done to the other. Always purchase medium grade brake pads and shoes. Premium pads and shoes are almost always too agressive for any rotor to withstand and will generate excessive heat and premature wear. If your brakes seem like they arent releasing it is most likely the calipers.

SOURCE: front brakes heat up and

Chanses are its the calipers that are bad, and the break hoses going from the hard line to the caliper are too, (one or the other) i've had both problems on my wifes durango, changed both calipers twice and last time replaced both break hoses, i have also done the same thing to a friends sebring with the same problem, seams to have cured the breaking problems on both. Best thing to do is replace both calipers and both break hoses, i think it will solve your break issue.

Why are only two of my brakes working on my 98 bonneville pontiac?

This is a litlle strange as the master cylinder has the brakes usually set up with the fronts together and the rears together. you can see if the caliper on the front is siezed and the master cylinder frozen on the rear wheel. Does the car have ABS and if so have the lights come on

What would cause the front brakes to get so hot it pops the tire.

possibly:
-siezed caliper
-collapsed brake hose, restricting fluid flow causing opposite brake to work harder building excess heat

Front brakes are dragging on the 97 oldsmobile bravada.my pedal has endplay before the rod engages with the master cyclinder. I replaced the master cylcinder adn flushed the front brake lines.

Hi,
Try bleeding the front brakes a little and see if they are holding pressure. If they are, it could be an adjuster problem, or fault with the master cylinder.
If there is no real pressure when bleeding - It's most likely a siezed piston or siezed caliper.
I presume the Brake pads and Discs are the correct type - as there are often many different models fitted, so identification is imperitive. Some are a few MM above others. Worth a double check.

Heat coming from1997 geo tracker & front tires

sounds like you have a brake claiper piston not return causing the brake pads to drag, jack up both wheels and spin to see if you can feel or hear drag, give the wheel a hard spin and see if it stops right away or seems to spin freely, could be the drag of the pads on the rotor, or wheel bearings need repack or even as much as brake residual fluid pressure on calipers cuased by improper brake mc pushrod adjustment, if you have had any recent brake work like a MC replacement it could be that it was not properly adjusted as far as pedal free play... check those.. please let me know if this helps, rate my help...thanks

1995 Dodge Dakota Calipers

check your fluids and bleed the brake system , if that is all the issues your having . if low on fluid and keeps draining out then you have whats known as a caliper seal broken and that means $30-50 bucks for a new one/rebuilt , i know i drove mine like that for a bit and had to replace the driver side.
