How many camshaft sensors does a 2002 camry has?

I look up your code. Meaning of code is vvt sensor range/performance problem bank 1

possible causes
faulty variable valve timing vvt sensor
variable valve timing sensor harness is open or shorted
variable valve timing sensor circuit poor electrical connection
engine control module

check if new engine is same old engine in all components,
if your engine is an 2az ,2.4L , the camshaft sensor its located on rear engine head , near the refrigerant outlet

Please check the following:
- Valve timing
- Camshaft Position Sensor.
- Wiring and connectors.
- Camshaft timing gear assembly
- ECM

Have you ever replaced the timing belt?? If not the problem is likely to be a loose worn out timing belt. A floppy belt will play havoc with the sensor signals and trigger a check engine light and a camshaft sensor code.

Some diagnostic readers give out cam sensor instead of crank sensor codes problem is what you have not changed .The crankshaft sensor.

Have someone who knows what they are doing try to pull the code, instead of erasing it and telling you it's fine. That is a no go. I would say lots of hesitation could have to do with the crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, etc.

Hi : Your CPS (Camshaft position sensor) is located on the Engines Front Cover (Timing Chain Cover) its right below your Cylinder Head ,Get a Good Bright Light to Locate it ,You'll see a Wiring Connector plugged into the Sensor, emove the electrical Plug.
Then you have 1- Screw Holding it in Place -Remove the Retaining Screw and Remove the Sensor.

To replace it with your new Camshaft Sensor Put the Camshaft Sensor in where you took out your Old one,Replace the Retaining Screw Tighten up Good And Snug,Put the Wiring connector back on the Sensor and Your Done. The evaporation canister can cause this, so would any vacuum leak. A faulty throttle position sensor or camshaft position sensor would also cause this but it would in the diagnostics most likely.

Maybe oil or coolant leaking on it shorting it out! Good Luck!!!!

check the belt,if its out it will flag up this code,your car will run on sequential firing from the crankshaft sensor,failing that put an oscilloscope on the signal wire at the sensor and ecu its possible the ecu might not be seeing the signal,start with the basics first
