Same problem with whining 2001 bmw 740 il power steering pump.Does not whine all the time.Does this have a filter system that can be changed?Need solution to problem without changing pump.thanks
Have you put a different type of power steering fluid?
in some instance, if they put a different type of fluid, the solution bubbles up and makes a whining noise when you use the car.

Need new belt or bearing thats inside that pully ok maby be the ac clutch bearin also u sure form that add fluids most likely the bearing
On your power steering pump there will be a filler spout or a hose that leads to a resovoir to put in power steering fluid. also checkthat your power steering belt or the belt to your power steering i tight as this will cause your pump to whine on occasions.

The filter in the power steering tank is dirty and this will restrict the oil from the tank going to the pump .This will make the pump CARING FOR HELP, and now you know the secrete ,all the best.
