left car parked for a week. Drove my envoy all day and it was fine. Overnight it was parked and in the morning car didn't start. Alarm, windows and lights work but I get a clicking sound but car does not start. Is this my battery or my starter?

It could be a defective ignition switch as well (it has a disabling circuit) thinking the vehicle is stolen. The dealer has the equipment to see if is throwing a code for that.

Had the same problem last night...if you are still running your factory battery....REPLACE IT! you'll have to boost the engine to start it and be able to remove the key....

The clicking sound you hear when you turn the key is the starter solenoid trying to apply voltage to the starter. Try this, if you can see the starter tap it with a hammer and then try to start the car. this is an emergency make do.

The solenoid is a heavy duty relay that is capable of switching the high current requirements of the starter (up to 70 - 100 amps).

If it's clicking its closing. By the way a new starter will come with a new solenoid

I just replaced my starter in my F-150 today for the exact same problem. Cost $100

Hope this helps Good Luck Loringh

I have a 03 cadillac cts the other day after work i go get in the car try and start it up the radio part reads anti theft / service theft sytem and does not start and also said remove key... what the

The vehicle is having problems reading the tiny metal security slug in the ignition key. When you used a key to unlock the door, you disabled the security system so it started. There are a variety of different resistance values on the slugs in the key. You can have someone with a ohm meter read the resistance of yours and install a fixed resistor of the same identical value to the wiring for the key security system. You may alternatively spray contact cleaner or a bit of WD-40 in the ignition switch to clean it off. Insert and remove the key several times, wiping it off each time you remove it.

Can't Shift To Neutral with a Dead Battery

I am not sure about the Impala but the SAAB (also made by GM) has a small slot near the shifter where you can insert your key or screw driver (something flat) to release it from park when the car cannot be powered up.

I would first clean the battery post and clamps, as a bad connection can cause a vehicle to act like the battery is dead, you can either buy battery terminal cleaner( it comes in a spray can) or you can use coke and a wire brush. Hope this helped Tim

The 12 volt battery(LUCAS 065/3) on my FORD FIESTA 1100cc is 4 years old, in that time i have only driven 1,600 miles as my journeys are usually very local. I make sure i use the car twice a week to keep...

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

Electrical problem

there is a short on the car electric circuits, or inside the ignition block. If I was in your shoes I would start by replacing the ignition block. This can probably fix it. If it doesn't, you should check the ignition circuit backward to find the short.
