Hi i want upgrade my car for drive in rough trrain and very rocky terrain what shall i do ?

if you have rough terrain tires on that could be a cause

I have had these same issues with my 2011 Terrain. I just read on the equinoxforum.net that there is a softwear update/upgrade (# PIO285) available. It is supposed to fix these problems. It is recommended that you take your vehicle to a GM dealer with this information. I am taking mine next week. Good Luck!

Hi, 2hi is your normal driving selection, this is NOT in 4WD mode. Both 4lo and 4hi is for 4 wheel driving, 4lo is used in extreme conditions and will gear the vehicle down to a very slow speed with maximum traction at the wheels, 4hi is for general 4 wheel driving in rough terrain, if you have lights on the dash than it will come on when you change gears, hope this help

Full time 4 wheel drive should be used on rugged and difficult to drive on terrain, this could include adverse weather such as deep snow, mudslides, sand dunes etc.

Part time would be used on terrain that is irregular where some parts of a track may be road and other parts rocky, mountainous regions combined with any of the above weather conditions. The 4 wheel drive should not be used for normal driving as it will only over time damage the gearbox, the 4 wheel system is not designed for speed but purely for grip and stability.

AWD is all wheel drive, you would use this if you where driving in snow or on rough terrain. does the van have jacked suspension?

If your feeling a vibration and hearing a roaring type sound that stops when you just turn the wheel a small amount,you will need to check wheel bearings.

about 50,000-75,000 miles on good roads, much less on rough roads with lots of pot holes and/or very rough pavement, in this case 25,000 is average

Get a balance/rotation/alignment before worrying about tranny troubles. What kind of tires do you have? Some all terrain tires for SUVs just will never ride smooth. I had an older Explorer and found a great deal on All Terrain tires from Good Year. They didn't look overly aggressive, however the square lip and tread pattern made them very noisy on highways. Yep a transmisson problem have the oil and filter changed on the transmission.

Unless your rocky was custom or rebuild, the four wheel drive on the 90-92 rocky is not auto engage. it is manual. you have to use the four wheel gear shifter located left of the main gear shifter.
