The trunk spring rod on my 2005 toyota avalon has popped out. How do I replace?
There are two spring rods that work together to open trunk when latch is released and to hold the trunk open. One has popped out and I can't figure out how to put it back.

emergency release is connected directly to latch release ---the linkage rod may be disconnected ,latch may need lube --spring damaged or disconnected latch simple enough to replace junk yard cheapest --online,auto stores -or dealer most expensive
Hi Kathleen lets try with a spare key to unlock trunk if that fails try with any key and a little WD 40. If none of these suggestions work then I'm gonna say that the rod that connects the key to the latch is disconnected or damaged. Gonna require pulling down rear seats using a flashlight, pulling down carpet that is in center of trunk above the latch and remove either 2 or 3 (amount)10 or 8mm (size)bolts that holds latch to inside of trunklid . Once removed the latch will stay on the lock hoop and the trunk should open. Afterwards you have to inspect the trunk lid to determine whether the clip that hold the rod is damaged and needs replacement. Good luck
You have to remove the inner door panel to access the exterior handle's mounting nuts. Once you have the panel off, there will be a plastic film, or water shield, that you can peel off far enough to reach the handle ( when done, reseal the plastic with a little adhesive).. The handle is usually held in place by just two nuts which you remove, then disconnect the latch rod from the handle, and pull the old handle off. Attach the rod to the new handle, tighten the attaching nuts, and put everything back together. Getting the door panel off is the hardest part of this job. Good luck.
There's a longsteel rod on the roof of your trunk that goes from one trunk hinge to the other and it acts like a spring when your trunk lever is pulled. Sounds like it broke on one side.
the plastic trim around the handle pops out easily there will be two rods going outward towards the latch [the clips are known for breaking] these rods pull inward together to release the latches
Your trunk master switch is probably off. Open the glove box, and, on the driver side of the glove box, the trunk master switch is located there. If this is activated, the remote and the dash switch are deactivated. Please repost if this does not solve your problem.
