my 2003 power steering fan runs when my car is off too and it drains the battery. I'd like to know where to get one serviced and/or fixed in North Alabama.

I did find the following repair instructions on another site :

How to Replace the Mini Cooper's Power Steering Fan:

    1) remove the 5A fuse for the fan, drivers side floor panel.

    2) There are only two 13 mm bolts easily accessed just beyond the oil drain plug, but use a SAE 1/2 socket, not a 13 mm, ( Including your 13mm oil plug - the 1/2 fits tighter and lessens the possibility of rounding off the bolt head....)

    3) With the housing on the deck, gently press tab that is on one side of the connector and unplug it, now you can removed the whole unit.

Reverse these directions for install, and don't forget to put your fuse back in!

Start up car, turn on A/C, if you did everything correctly, the PS Fan should kick on about 30 seconds later ......

When changing oil, unbolt the fan housing and turn it upside down and give it a gentle rap on some rags so as not to damage it. A lot of sand and debris should come out....some good preventive maintenance.

    powersteering pump replacement

  • merlinfmly May 11, 2009

Occasionally the power steering pump will continue to run even after the key is removed from the ignition. Twice it happened when I was had parked it at home. Luckily, I disconnected the battery cable and that fixed it. I believe it happened to my wife once because she parked the car and returned after work and the battery was dead.

It is not the pump that stays on its the fan if your hearing a wizzing sound that starts off low and progresses high very quickly. this stops when u turn ur car back on and continues once off but leave it off for a little while and it should stop i believe its a fan because my friends cobalt does the same thing

SOURCE: 2000 Alero power steering pump

Air in lines. Start car and turn full left and full right several times. then let it sit till the foam is gone and top off the fluid and repeat.

SOURCE: Power steering pump

Yes in most cases the pump rotor vanes cause this noise, there are additives that can help like one made by Lucas Oil, but if it is really whinning then that will be a watse of money, if you end up putting on a rebuilt pump make sure to flush all the old fluid out or the pump you just spent your hard earned money on will get noisey to.

My 1996 maxima power steering pulley doesn't turn properly & it sqeals with a stiff steering wheel. The belt has proper tension & is new

Does kind of buzz at an idle and it whine when you try to turn? You could be low on power steering fluid. Sometimes people put the wrong fluid un it pump instead of power steering fluid which will cause problem because the fluid is too thick.
You could possibly have a pump going out on you.
Jack the car up to get the front wheels off the ground. With the engine off, turn the steering wheel lock to lock. If you feel any binding as you turn you may have a bent steering rack.

If not try to turn key while trying to wiggle the steering wheel back and forth, if it turns on a it still won't move either your steering knuckle is ceased up or your power steering pump is out. No power steering, it stays real hard to turn the steering wheel

Check to see if your leaking any power steering fluid. If theres no fluid leak from your car then the problem is the power steering pump needs to be replaced. The job is not too hard, If you need some tips to replacing the pump just write me back.

Electric power steering quit is there a fuse on 2007 chevy equinox

The Chevy Equinox has an 80 Amp mega fuse that tends to fail and cause all sort of power steering and Stabilitrak issues. Before I messed with the belts or power steering pumps, I would check the fuse first.
