Engine will not turn over.first check battery volts, should be 12.6 volts. if not battery is weak or dead make sure battery cables tight and clean them if you see a lot of corrossion use baking soda and water neutralize corrossion remove battery cables clean them with wire brush also clean battery post terminal with wire brush also wear safety glasses protect your eyes now.try charging and jump start vechicle see if battery good or starter at fault bench test starter and starter solenoid if starter dont work problem in the starter.if starter good.you have blown starter fuse bad starter relay if dash lights dont light up when you turn on the ignition switch and battery has 12.6 volts.check ignition fuse if fuse is good dash still dont light up,you could have faulty ignition switch.if all is good you could have bad clutch safety switch for manual transmission or faulty neutral switch for automatic transmission.if you have the late model cars from 1996 to 2012 has the theft security system which will cause car not to start and try turning engine over with a large wrench to make sure engine not locked up.

Starter not turning engine over only clicks. Solenoid?

battery flat or low amps. starter motor brushes worn out, or engine locked up. try jump starting engine off a known working battery or another engine. if not turn over see if you can turn over the engine by hand. ( socket on crankshaft and turn clockwise) if these are all good replace the starter motor. or bump start engine.

make sure the engine is at operating temp.. Turn idle mixture screw/s all way in then out about 2 turns start engine and turn screw/s in or out until the engine runs evenly turn in until engine starts to slow down then out until it dies again. count the turns and leave in the middle of the number of turns. Hi my I have a toyota 4-runner 1998, and I noticed that my check engine light turns on after a 50+ mile long drive. So when I pull over and turn off the engine for about 15 minutes, the check engine...

this is generally the O^2 sensor it will go in and out of value corresponding to the vehicle temperature. it would be a good idea to replace the coolant temp sensor and the O^2 sensor.

My 1999 oldsmobile alero will not turn over i had the starter checked and its good i put a new battery in it and it still wont turn over what else could be the problem or is the engine locked up

BAD BATTERY CABLES.CABLES WORN WHICH CAUSES POOR GROUND.TO CHECK TO SEE IF ENGINE LOCK UP.TAKE A 1/2 SOCKET WRENCH AND 15 METRIC 1/2 INCH SOCKET.TURN CRANKSHAFT BOLT TO SEE IF ENGINE TURN OVER..IF NO ENGINE LOCKED UP OR NOT ALL THE WAY IN PARK OR YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY SAFETY CLUTCH SWITCH FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION OR YOU COULD HAVE FAULTY TRANSMISSION NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH.CHECK THE STARTER RELAY.MAKE SURE ENGINE ALL THE WAY IN PARK.IF YOU CANT TURN ENGINE WITH A SOCKET WRENCH TURN ENGINE CLOCKWISE IF YOU CANT ENGINE LOCKED UP DUE TO CONTAMINATED OIL.OIL COULD HAVE LOTS GAS OR COOLANT IN IT.THIS WILL HAPPEN IF OIL NOT BEEN CHANGED OR YOU HAVE LEAKING INTAKE GASKET.FAULTY FUEL PRESSURE CAUSE GAS GET IN THE ENGINE OIL.

When you turn the key on can you hear the fuel pump??? Does the engine sound normal when turning over(compression)??? Then check for spark, fuel pressure, injector signal etc.

Starter won't turn over engine

I know it sounds dumb, but by turning over, you mean that the engine turns but does not start? Or, that the starter turns but the engine does not turn (spin with the starter engaged and running). If engine turns with starter, check spark & fuel. If starter turns and engine does not, check the teeth on the flywheel. if any are missing or worn off, it will give that problem. If starter engages but engine seems to be "locked up", remove spark plugs and attempt to turn it by hand. Any coolant on plugs indicates a blown head gasket or cracked cylinder head. If engine does not turn by hand with plugs out, likely you have a bearing or other "lower end" problem.

Indicators only work with iginition on and not with engine running

I had a similar problem. Try turning the engine on and then turning the key back just a hair (as if to turn the engine off, but not enough that the engine actually turns off).
