Idling and running problems, engine stalls when started, backfires thru carb
1996 ram van 1500 3.9 120,000 miles new fuel pump , tune up , wires , etc. motor usually dies as soon as it starts unless you 2 foot it. also backfires through carb , at same time has no power , will fix itself if i dont give it any more gas , i dont get that usual rush of air from the fan clutch , clutch is new last year , sometimes its fine but on cooler days , it just dies when i start it. after i get some load on the motor it straightens out until i shut it off for 5 minutes , then go thru it all over again . was dying at 1/2 tank of gas until sending unit was changed , but this problem has persisted.
07 Tundra DC 5.7 4x4 inconsistent no-start problem. Engine fires then dies. Sometimes runs for 1-2 seconds before dieing. Usually persists for +/- 10-min, then runs just fine. Frequency of cranks irrelevant before problem fixes itself. Found TSB 0220 of '08, but found no corrosion in wiring, and rubber grommets appeared OK. Dealership can't get problem to duplicate, so no codes off computer. Been complaining to dealership for 2+ years now. Problem used to be once a month or so, no getting much more frequent.07 Tundra DC 5.7 4x4 inconsistent no-start problem. Engine fires then dies. Sometimes runs for 1-2 seconds before dieing. General advice:After warming up track the problem:sparkplugs (even new can have the ceramic parts broken/cracked /wiring (after warming up the isolation get's soft, can loose spark power)/ignition coil(s) (gets hot, stop runnig),running reach, fuel pump/fuel pump relay.Best guess:fuel pump mallfunction (low pressure) related, fuel filter cloged/water in the fuel/fuel line cloged/chipped. Cheers, hope u figure it out,let the people know.
Check to see if distributor is loose. If it is, look for indications of where it was clamped before it moved to get it back close so you can start it and set timing.
Is the fuel pump energizing? If not, look for the white wire and see where it goes. If it just goes to the frame, re-do the ground wire to a new clean location.
if it is energizing replace the fuel filter.
if still not running, check for spark. If you have spark, check emissions hoses and see if EGR is closed. If it is stuck open, it will lean the engine out.
If it starts and runs without power, drop the exhaust, the catalytic converter and or muffler may be obstructions since it backfired. It should start even with those damaged, but it may not be able to move enough air through to run well.
ENGINE STALL WHILE DRIVING COULD BE STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER OR FAULTY FUEL PUMP.IDLE SPEED TOO LOW.OR IGNITION COIL HAS A LOOSE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION.FAULTY IGNITION MODULE.BAD PLUGS AND WIRES. I WOULD DO A LITTLE TUNE UP.CHANGE FUEL FILTER AND AIR FILTER.IF SPARK PLUGS AND WIRES HAS OVER 30000 MILES ON THEM I WOULD CHANGE THEM.ALSO FUEL FILTER IF OVER 30000 MILES.CHANGE IT CLEAN FUEL INJECTORS. TO TROUBLE SHOOT CAR I WILL DO A LITTLE TUNE UP FIRST TO MAKE EVERYTHING TOP NOTCH ON THE ENGINE BEFORE I GO TO NEXT LEVEL.BUYING NEW PARTS DONT NEED.GET VECHICLE SCANNED WITH A SCANNER. THAT WILL ALSO PIN POINT PROBLEM QUICKLY.BUT DO THE LITTLE TUNE UP FIRST IF EVERYTHING PAST 30000 MILES MARK.SCAN VECHICLE FOR FAULTY IDLE SPEED CODES OR FAULTY IGNITION MODULE CODE THEY WILL COST MORE MONEY TO FIX.PARTS HIGH.
I Have a 1999 ford f150 4.6 that back fires and is just running really ruff when idling alot of nack fire a sord of like a pulse going on what is my problem?
Best do a fuel pressure test. Should have chg. fuel filter from the get go. The only other filter is on the end of the fuel pump in tank. Bad gas and dirty gas will plug up fuel filter, hense burn pump up.
Right turn signal - activate turn signal and check to see if bulb (front and rear) are flashing. If not it will affect the flashing timing. Replace bulb. As for stalling, may yet be sediment/gunk in tank that is clogging new fuel pump filter and inline filter. Or an idle/throttle position sensor. Hatch problem, I've no idea. Family members 1998 Grand Caravan has been infected with similar gremlins in the sliding doors. Best advice is to obtain a Chiltons/Haynes repair manual and go through the troubleshooting section.
