Turn key in ignition of Xterra 2002 it makes a moan sound

yea sounds like a bad starter, in the cold it will not make complete contact when soleniod triggered.. this is due to worn contacts inside, when warm it makes a better contact, if you replace the starter this will solve your problem, also have the battery and alternator tested

Replace Fuel Pump .

that noise is 1 of your belts. there is 3 belts on it. and with the power steering noise I think it is your power steering belt needs to replaced or agjusted

Sorry that you're having trouble. There are a few things that could cause something like what you describe. The first possibility is broken timing belt. You'll know this is the case if the engine sounds very fast and quiet when you try to start it. The second possibility is fuel pump problem, Check the fuel pump relay and fuse. Listen for the fuel pump. Does it come on when you turn the key in the ignition. And another possibility is a problem with the ignition coil pack or ignition control. Check for spark, and check for any loose wires/wire harness connectors. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Could be the distributor. Bearings are notorious for failing which affects the cam position sensor in the unit. Did you have any codes thrown to the display ?

Check the power to the cold start injector. (it's only going to have fire for a few sec. after the key is turned on). If the fire is good, replace the cold start injector. This injector is activated for a few seconds when the engen temp is low to add a little fuel lower down in the intake and closer to the pistons.

Your power steering pump has gone bad. Consider replacing it. I had the same problem before.

It moans when u turn at a stand still but rolls freely when in motion?

check you battery and battery cables...sounds like a big voltage drop

Next time it won't start turn headlights on and see if they dim when you turn key to start, if they dim its most likely starter, if they don't dim possible starter switch, Have you tried to start it in neutral position? Try that, if it starts in neutral than its park neutral switch, if not could be starter switch, Just make sure you chk. all fuses and any relays associated with ignition first.
