Don't believe there is one for headlights. Your jeep is too darn old: I can see wiring diagrams going back to 1986 at a site, so I looked at one for an '86 CJ7. Unfortunately not a complete headlight wiring diagram, however, so you're getting a two bit answer, with inflation worth about 10 cents. lol.
The headlight switch gets power from a fusible link (Fuse link A) that looks like it may be located on the starter solenoid terminal- two fuse links- A & B, there somewhere. But this same fusible link A also supplies power to the fuse block with the park/tail lamps, hazards, brake lights, and a couple others. So if you have stop lights and park lights, then the fusible link is good, so you should have power to the headlight switch. Neither the fuse block, nor the instrumentation diagram, shows any fuses for the headlights. A lot of older vehicles did not have headlamp fuses, because the light switch had a built-in circuit breaker.
My guess is you have a bad dimmer switch, or the connection there may be bad. Or check if you have power to the headlight socket with the light switch on, and if you do, there may be a headlight ground problem.
if diagram is not located on fuse box then your local autozone can help you out and in alot of cases can print you out diagram showing location of fuse at no cost.....good luck and if this info help to you then please rate my post.......
The fuse junction block is located below the dash and
behind the right kick panel. There are three fuses
related to the headlights.
(1) fuse # f2.25 left headlight 10amp
(2) fuse # f2.23 right headlight 10amp
(3)fuse # f2.40 day running lamp/bcm/main light sw.
and multifuntion switch. 20amp.
Hope this helps.
Don't have a diagram for that one but I'd begin by checking power and ground at lights and power on the "out" wire from the switch, and work towards the middle. Also check power distribution center and see if there is a fuse, relay or both for that.
Look on the inside of the panel you removed to access the fuses. There should be a diagram with the fuses and what they control. Very similar to a fuse box in a home. Once you see the fuse you think is for the headlights, pull it, then check in the middle. There is a thin piece of wire (here's a picture: http://www.procarcare.com/images/shar/encyclopedia/8852dg22.gif) allowing for a connection to be created. If that piece of metal is separated (it will usually be obvious) you've got the right fuse.
Also, if you're having trouble pulling the fuse, you can pick up a device for a few bucks at any auto parts store that helps dramatically, like this one: http://www.acehardwareoutlet.com/(cmbea4451fbxwd45styauf45)/ProductDetails.aspx?SKU=88272
Look in your owners manual for the fuse block diagram. This will show you which fuse or fuses control these lights. Open up the fuse box and replace that fuse. Some fuses look like they are still ok but they have a hairline crack in them. Sooooooo to be sure, replace the fuse in question with a new one of the same amperage. If you need fuses, or someone to show you more about this go to any autozone store and they will sell you the fuse, show you where the fuse is located and probably even replace it for you all for the cost of the fuse.
ddlucia: there is one fuse box located in the engine compartment.
it is a large black box. it will contain the headlight fuses.
The other fuse block is inside the passengers compartment.on the drivers side. some of the cars had the cruise control fuses in this panel others were in the engine compartment.
dim lights wont work but bright will??? tried new lights but same result??
