Starts hard and dies.Once it warms up it tends to run ok. If I shut it off and wait ten minutes, it won't start w/out flooding unless I give it just a bit of throttle.I have chkd fuel pressure at pump and its around 10 psi(don't really know what it should be for throttle body), new fuel filter, maf sen, throttle postion switch. Have chkd vac lines and seem to be fine.I got codes from on-line source so not sure of accuracy 13-02 sen, 15-colant temp sen or low coolant temp,22-TP sen?/fuel cut-off relay,33-map sen/voltage high/fuel injector,44-02sen/lean.I had maf sensor vac line, injectors and throttle pos switch disconnected during trouble shooting, maybe causing a couple of these. I've had a couple guys look at it but w/out solutions. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.Getting ready to recycle it!
CPC has chain drive cam center of block, old skool V6
how many miles on this engine? 300K?
if it backfires to the tail pipe end say so, that is called muffler explosion, (fuel + cracks there do that)
if it backfires to air cleaner box, ? does it?
this car is old.
test 1 is compression, 160psi good , 80psi bad x4, (belt slip)
done with throttle open (WOT) never done closed throttle .
do not pull sensors, this puts the ECU in to limphome mode
limphome causes
gross over fueling
retarded spark
flooding
and more, all bad, never do that. test the sensors and leave them alone that work. (ask how to test sensors, its not hard)
clear the errors, by pulling battery neg lug, for 2 min. put back
put back all sensors.
now crank for 5 seconds,
or if runs let it run a minute or 2
and then do the flashing CEL lamp test again, like you did before
got codes now, if yes, THEY MATTER
all codes in 1990 matter, its got so few, and all are
catastrophic failures, and MATTER.
if you pull sensors ALL ECU go nuts (02 is ok to pull)
1990 , 10x more nuts.
in 1996 (usa) less nuts, but still a bad act.
never pull ECT sensor or get a flood of FUEL.
this car is 27 years old
when was it a good daily driver, 1 week , 1year?ago.
ever get a full tuneup this decade, spark .both filters?
was fuel ever bad.? in last year or so.?
as you can see, the older the car the more questions,
and for sure more things will be bad, as all are. 27 years old
V6. CPC engine is its name.
TBI , 9-13psi fuel pressure is spec.
id check compression first
then ECT sensor for cold ohms
room temp ohms is about 3000 ohms
hot engine must be about 300 ohm, at sensor unplugged.
at 5degrees F, the sensor reads 21,000 ohms
if your reads that 21k, and its warm out, then the sensor is bad
and it will flood the engine.
we test this sensor out of car, most easy
in cold water, the room temp and then boiling water.
212f boiling is 177 ohms, btw.
that's the easy stuff,
more , ask.
Have you cleaned the throttle valve and the air bypass idle speed control valve? If not do that. When they get really gummed up from backwash from the combustion process they cause this problem of stall on cold start.

Hello, was it working before your replaced the timing belt?
SOURCE: When it cold it floodes out I changed. Coolant sen
A Coolant Temp Sensor will usually have multiple wires (Usually
2) whereas a Coolant Temp Sender usually only has 1 wire. Coolant temperature sensor is very important piece of the puzzle that makes
up the engine management system in your vehicle. Your vehicles PCM (Computer)
uses the information gathered from the coolant temperature
sensor to know how rich or lean the engine needs to be according
to engine temperature. When you go to start your vehicle, one of the first things the
computer looks at is the engine temperature; this dictates what parameters it will use for
initial start up. When your vehicle is cold it runs in "Open Loop" which is a
set of programmed parameters, once warmed up the ECT tells the computer to go
to "Closed Loop", this is when the sensors really take over and the
mixture is adjusted for emissions. When an ECT fails or
goes out of range it can affect the idle quality, fuel mileage, and
generally the overall performance of the vehicle. ---------------- The flooding problem in cold is also related to many other possibilities like:--- 1) Defective oxygen sensors. 2) The fuel pressure is low. 3) The fuel injectors are leaking. 4) The air intake in the vehicle is getting blocked. But most common possibility is faulty coolant temperature sensor. It has to be replaced first and checked. ---------------- this will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

A lot of new parts! Have a compression test done to gauge the engine's internal condition, and go from there. If compression is good on all 6 cylinders, scan for trouble codes. The compression test may find your problem, something like an exhaust valve burned or not seating properly.
