1988 golf 1.3 gearbox/clutch funny sound?

Sounds Like Thrust Clutch Bearing Is On Its Way Out.
You Need To Remove Gear Box Fit New Bearing On Spigot Shaft
Re Fit Gear Box ,While You Have It Out Check Condition Of Clutch

Im not sure about the whirring sounds, but i had the same problem with the quick acceleration and rocketing rpms. Got i new clutch put in , no more problems

Your whining sound problem is the Layshaft bearings in the gearbox are badly worn. It also seems that the baulk rings are damaged on 5th gear.

it sounds like the thrust bearing in worn with no load you can hear the wear or play in the bearing

it sounds like your clutch release bearing has or is colapsing.when you press the clutch the release bearing is under the most load hence the noise.gearbox out i,m afraid.Can you still get gears ok ?.Also the pedal box,s are prone to break on polo,s ,the symptom for that is like a squashy pedal and hard to get gears.if you can look up at the top of the clutch pedal where the cable mounts see if the bracket the cable fits in to is broken away at the top.

that has a manual clutch cable,sounds like it needs to be adjusted if not the fork inside trans is cracked

my daewoo lanos wont shift into gear/s while running even when clutch is depressed all the way

need to have the shift forks look at in trans sounds like when the pedal is depressed clutch is not comming all the way out also if the clutch is not hydrolic then the clutch cable can be adjusted

If the clutch feels ok and isn't biting right at the bottom or right at the top then it sounds like its time for a recon or 2nd hand gearbox to be fitted.

I recently fitted a 2nd gearbox to a seat ibiza GTi which actually has the 2.0 Golf engine fitted to it and it wasn't too bad at all, but it is adviseable to fit a clutch kit whilst the box is off.
