The reverse lightbulbs should be 1156. The issue coould be the trans reverse switch, but that is a rare failure. What I would do is be looking for corrosion at the connector that is under the bed, and then branches out to the taillamps. With the key on, and the trans in reverse, you should have 12 volts at the Red with a Black tracer wire in that connector. This is a very common failure area.
Hope this helps.

To start my 1997 E-150 van, I must put it in nuetral first. Any solution?

replace the park/neutral switch. The switch is mounted to the transmission. After installing the new switch, leave the screws a bit loose, set the parking brake, turn on the key, and put the transmission in reverse. Adjust the switch by rotating until the backup lights are on, and then tighten the screws.

When i put my truck into reverse my lights dont work however if i pull my shifter back inbetween reverse and neutral if i get this one spot they come on

There is usually a switch mounted on the transmission. Perhaps it has gotten loose or something is worn or broken. Your gear selection goes park, reverse, neutral and drive. Since the switch is not coming on from park to reverse but it kinda does if you go past reverse (neutral) then it sounds like the switch has moved from its original place. That's why I think it is loose. Good Luck!

Backup lights don't come bulbs check ok

On the side of your transmission, there will be a switch with several wires coming out of it. This is your reverse switch and most likely it will need to be replaced

REVERSE LIGHTS

Look under the truck at the transmission..there is a reverse light switch mounted to the transmission that turns the lights on and off - look to see if the wires are still connected, if so, the switch itself may have gone bad -you should be able to get one at any parts shop or jeep dealer

2006 3500 back up lights inop

If it is a standard truck there might be a problem with the back up light switch wich is mounted on the passenger side directly on the transmission. To make sure that that is the problem, you can pull of the 2 wire plug and put your truck in reverse and jump the two wires. You will also need to turn your key but not start your engine. If your reverse lights turn on you know it is the switch on the transmission. Good luck!
