P0496 random missfire

  • Anonymous Dec 15, 2011

Thank You John, My daughter has it 800 miles away so we are at the hands of the garage mechanic. They suggested replacing everything. I thought if he sprayed water on the wires and coils he would find the problem......

Hi Jamie, I cannot find that fault code! I suggest that you look at the coil packs which control the ignition and the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. These are the areas most likely to cause random misfire. You should also look at the condition of the spark plugs. Fitting a new set wouldn't be a bad idea, but get the recommended plugs of the correct heat range and type. Regards John

  • Jamie I would strongly suggest not spraying water as that could land your daughter with a much heavier expense. Instead of doing that ask him to blow the whole unit off with compressed air to make sure there is no water or moisture anywhere in the system. If there is that may cause a misfire and give the symptoms reported. Ask your daughters mechanic to check the pick up's I've mentioned and the motor for the exhaust gas re circulation. Don't hesitate if you think combined minds can be of help. Regards John

I have a 2004 range rover vogue, with the 4.4 BMW V8. Before leaving Sydney for Brisbane I replaced all the spark plugs as #7 was missing.

Mr Hans. You said replaced the sparks as no7 was missing or missfiring. I take it for missfiring. Now you removed 8 ht leeds and removed and renewed 8 spark plugs. Possible cause of the random missfiring you have is, either not properly clicked the leeds to the spark plugs, or your leeds are old and by removing them are cracked, or slightly moved from the distributtor cap. Check for these issues. To disconnect the battery is not the solution. I believe you have HT leeds issue.

Random missfire

I hope you used AC Delco plugs. Make sure the spark plug gaps are correct. Also, make sure you torque the spark plugs to manufacturer's specification. This would be a good start. Scott

P0496 code on 2006 silverado 5.3 4x4 also p0300 code

P0496 evap system flow during non purge, and this is the reason you have also P0300. Your solutiion is just the purge solenoid, In other word the system purge when it was not suppose and created a random misfire code P0300. If you have a under hood sticker the purge solenoid sould be listed there,if not it is on top of the throttle body.either the solenoid got stuck open and carburator cleaner can help clear it or it just worn

1999 malibu 3.1 clyd 5 missfire and now random missfire oil light is on lfters very noise runs rough

Have you confirmed there is no oil pressure and the oil level is full on the dipstick?

The oil pump is turned by the oil pump drive located under the throttle body. The oil pump drive is run of from the cam shaft. It is not uncommon for the camshafts to break on these engines.

It may not be a bad idea to pull the front valve cover and turn the engine over by hand to see if all the rockers are moving.

I have 1999 318 4x4 dakota with fault coads

These are misfire codes. This means that your vehicle is missing. The 300 is a random misfire and the 305 is for cylinder 5,and the 306 is for cylinder number 6.Check the plugs if they are good then you could have bad coils. They are top of the plugs.Hope this helps.Good luck.
