About a week ago I took my Riviera in for a state inspection emissions test.. Got great news it passed with flying colors.. Well 3 days later car is running & driving well, as well as starting with out any problems at all. Till 3 hours after i drove the car, I had to go somewhere, so i turn the key and all the dashboard lights lite up as normal.. But it wont crank at all. U can hear the fuel pump pulling fuel into the line, but there is NO clicking sound from the starter. I proceeded like i were gonna jump start it from another vehicle using jumper cables. Jacked up the car so i could get to the starter. I was hoping it would just be a bad starter. So I turned the key over to on, and had friend tap \ hit the starter with a screwdriver, it would start but die instantly.. He also sprayed starter fluid & we attempted starting it several times and every time it start then die.. We disconnected the jumper cables and tired tapping starter once more only this time it made a backfire noise, like it was out of breath, overly exhausted.. So the next morning I went ahead and replaced the battery with brand new one. Now when I turn the key over completely, still no crank and now the entire digital dashboard lights all black out till the ignition key is back in the ON position.. Every car shop ive called all want an arm and a leg just to attempt to diagnose the problem. I really need my car running asap, but dont have hundreds of $$ to blow on trying to find the problem. The Riviera is bumper to bumper electric, Im assuming its probably a bad connection somewhere. Ive had numerous electical issues &\or repairs before. but never had an issue with the car starting. I dont know to begin, & finding info on this this make and model is very difficult. Hopefully FixYa comes to my rescue.. :)

you can not put a regular 3800 intake in place of the 3800 super charged engine, the compression ratio is lower than the regular 3800 engine.......!
SOURCE: how to replace accessory serpentine belt on 1996 Riviera
The supercharged 3800 engine uses two accessory drive belts. The outer belt drives the supercharger. The inner belt drives the generator, power steering pump, coolant pump and air conditioning compressor. All driven accessories are rigidly mounted to the engine. Drive belt tension is maintained by the spring loaded belt tensioner. Each belt has its own tensioner.
Remove:
Place a jack with a block of wood on it under oil pan to support engine. Caution : Be sure the wood block extends past the width of the oil pan to avoid damage.
Torque axis engine mount bolt where it connects the mount to the engine mounting bracket.
Electrical connector from crank sensor.
Engine mounting bracket lower stud and lower engine to allow stud to clear frame rail.
Raise engine and reinstall bolt into torque axis mount. Lower engine to allow spacer to be removed.
Belt(s)
Istalling:
Belt.
Spacer. Remove bolt from torque axis bracket and lower engine.
Electrical connector to crank sensor.
Mounting bracket stud.
Raise engine and install torque axis mount bolt.
Tighten bolt to 87 Nm (52 lb. ft.)
Good luck and hope this helps.

fuel filter,or pound on fuel tank lightly while trying to start with rubber mallet
SOURCE: 1995 Buick Riviera SC: traction and the security light
traction switch is located next to drivers left knee on bottom of dash....you should be able to turn off the traction light there by just turning on the traction control.....the security light is telling you that there is a problem with your security system....could just need a new key with a new computer chip....make sure the key is clean and dry when using so it can read the chip....the security light comes on whenever your start the car and stays on for approximatley 2 minutes and then should go out....it is just a reminder....try this and see if it works....lock the door using the power switch on door.....close door and see if the security light comes on....watch and it should go out after about 2 minutes...if it does then your alarm is activated and working....to disarm you need to unlock the driver door with the key...anything else will set the alarm off and the lights will start flashing and the horn honking...after you set the alarm off you will always have to use the key to unlock the drivers door to turn off the alarm and reset the security system.
SOURCE: 1995 Buick LeSabre won't start
my car is a 95 buick century. frequently when i stop and shut the car off , the next few minutes when i try to start it it won't start. i have battery power as far as the whir of the fuel pump, and lights, gauges come on but when i turn the switch it won't start. Is this the starter or ignition switch? After about 30 minutes or so, it will start again.
